So he takes a vacation and that makes him a foreign policy expert. That's cool.

Get to meet with Presidents, Prime Ministers, and Heads of State when you vacation, do you? That's cool.

He has no experience with this sort of thing, he's a freshman senator... wait, you mean he's out there trying to get experience and to calm the worried nerves of those who think he has no experience? How dare he, he has no experience with this sort of thing, he's a freshman senator... wait...

In a wide-ranging speech to over 200,000 people in Berlin on Thursday evening, Obama urged Europe to stand by the United States and stressed the need for unity in the face of new global dangers.

But, Rush said he had trouble filling the assembly area in Berlin. I just don't know who to believe a reputable news source or a political commentator with the nations largest radio audience?

Bush tried to rub the Chancellor of Germany's shoulders. He left a G8 meeting saying "Goodbye from the world's biggest polluter."

I'd say anyone who could draw an enthusiastic crowd of 200,000 in a foreign country is at least as qualified as the Chucklehead from Crawford, who learned about foreign policy on the job.

GurneyHalleck [TotalFark] 2008-07-25 09:31:06 AM
Don't worry, all you neocon warmongers and rabid capitalists--he's not going to change enough to make a difference in the bank statements and policies of those hands off industrialists that you all see as Gods. Hands off Capitalism is as safe as it's ever been. He's just putting a pleasant face on the same old game. Just like Slick Willie did.

It's good to see that this silly trip isn't folling anybody:

The significant news coverage Barack Obama is receiving on his foreign trip has not translated into a bounce in his numbers, a just-released FOX News poll shows. Obama now holds the slimmest possible edge over John McCain, leading by just 41 percent - 40 percent in a head-to-head contest. In fact, Obama's support is down slightly from his 45 percent - 41 percent advantage last month. (^)

How 'bout you wait and see what the polls say next week, eh Champ?

Because why vote for a man who can restore America's image abroad when you can vote for a guy who can restore America's image in a German restaurant in Columbus, OH!

American exports are a brand, if people don't like the image of the brand it can translate into lost revenue for American companies and individuals trying to sell a good or service abroad. Once your world expands outside your moms basement you'll learn a few things.

I think the right should just move on.

obama did well, get over it.

maybe your guy will turn up the electricity and revive that republican pride next week.

until then I find the feeble swipes at obama's success to be pretty telling of the mood on the right.

IMO the republicans need show their guy off rather than piss and moan about Obama. that's the only helpful response for the right, and they're likely to skip it.

clgrin 2008-07-25 10:36:13 AM
One more time, for those that still don't get it:

1) Obama, surprisingly enough, knew he would be televised and therefor used the occasion to speak to people beyond those hearing his voice like, perhaps, Americans

2)The trip to Iraq and Afganistan was a CONDEL, this was not... stop saying he's wasting state resources.

3) When people in foreign countries vote, the put new leader into office... sometimes multiple times during one presidency. When these people don't like us, that view is usually reflected in the leadership, and vice versa. This is why it's a good thing when foreign populations like us, and why it's a good thing to try and get them to like us more

Seriously, why are people up in arms about "America's image abroad?" Look in the mirror. The average American is fat, rich and old compared to the rest of the world. Sure, maybe he's no college hardbody, but then again, he doesn't care. And he's got more money than anyone else. Christ, you guys act like "America's image abroad" has some sort of real impact on you. It's like we're back in farking junior high with some of you, worrying about what the other kids will think.

We have to work together to solve problems like poverty, AIDS and terrorism. There's a national security advantage to being able to work with other first world nations. How much easier and cheaper do you think Iraq or Afghanistan would have been if we had significant help from NATO or the UN?

Anyone who doesn't think our image abroad affects us is living in the 19th century.
