That Dell ad makes my ears bleed.

Listening to them both in interviews and that biography VH1 just ran, they just strike me as very different people. But they're all they've got now, Who-wise, and I suspect they're as tight as they can be.

You share rooms if you're cutting costs. Why would these geezers need that?

Hope I get my own room before I get old.

I have heard that Roger does not have money like Pete does and insists on the tours. During the VH1 Rock Honors special I attended here in LA, Pete at one point said to Roger, after a few quips about money, "Try writing a song". The banter between them, and even that jab, were good natured and maybe even a little staged. But it should be point taken for Roger.

For my part, the songs of the Who were all written by Pete, but THE WHO are Roger, Pete, John and Keith.

I haven't seen this newest deal, but the last doc on them I watched (Amazing Journey: The Story Of The Who) shows them to have developed great understanding, appreciation, and seemingly genuine fondness for one another at this stage of things. Roger expressed how much he owes Pete for all the great songs he's been given to sing, and Pete singles out Roger as someone who was there for him through his whole child porn "research" scandal.

They may not be best buddies, but if they hated each other the Who would not still be together...though frankly, they should have quit when John Entwistle died (though I'm sure many would say after Keith Moon died). Either way The Who have run well past their expiration date.

It's nice to to see Ringo's son drumming for them now. (Look up Zak Starkey on youtube for clips). Way different style than his dad, but awesome.

They're been buddies since playing with each other's boy wienies, How dos you think Pete developed his urges?

Yeah, truly one of the great Bealte myths, that Ringo sucked.
May I direct you to 'Rain' or 'She Said, She Said' or 'A Day In The Life' to get yourself edumacated.
All brilliant performances.

anyone see that kinda uncomfortable moment in the VH1 tribute show thingy? Seemed to be some tension between Pete and Roger before they sang that Tea and Theater song

A sauna is not a steam room.

Two members does not The Who make.

Any other factual errors need correction?

I remember seeing an TV interview with Pete and Keith on youtube...from like 1979... it's prolly still up there.... where Pete said one of the reasons the Who had lasted that long [so far] was that none of them were really friends with each other. They were more like fellow workers, fellow employees, or something like that. More like acquaintences [spelling?] than friends or good friends, etc.

Third_Uncle_Eno 2008-07-25 11:37:24 AM
oh... also...
anybody else like "All the Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes" better than "Empty Glass"?
[i think there's only 3 or 4 good songs on "Empty Glass"]

John Lennon once said Ringo wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles

I like them both about the same ... meaning, each only has about 3 or 4 good songs.

I prefer 'All The Best Cowboys..." as well. I was a weird kid in the late 80's... I became a fan of Townshend, then was introduced to The Who.

Yeah, I know how you feel, BUT... saw them twice in the past few years, and they are STILL The Who, without a doubt.

Actually, that's the one I saw. I thought it was new, but I guess not...?

Glad I caught it the second time around. ;)

sonnyboy11: I have heard that Roger does not have money like Pete does and insists on the tours.

they did a lot of touring to help out John Entwistle, who was notorious for not managing his money very well. i don't think roger is hurting for caysh these days, though.

dallylamma: John Lennon once said Ringo wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles

the only john quote i know, on ringo's drumming is along the lines of "Ringo isn't a great drummer, but he's a farking great Beatles drummer". which sums it up nicely.

and yeah, as someone said, "She Said She Said" and "Rain" are great examples of awesome Ringo drumming. Ringo has siad "Rain" is his favorite song of his, ever. He crushes the kit.

He's kinda sloppy and technically not so great, but he's got his own imitable and instantly recognizable style.

I read somewhere that his sound comes from how he hits the drum. I'm not a drummer, but apparently, you are taught to strike the drumhead and let the stick recoil for a light "snap" attack. Ringo apparently wouldn't let the stick recoil; he'd kinda "plant" the stick to the drumhead, which gave it a thudding sound and made the snare sound kinda muffled. Dunno. I'm not a drummer.

another great one is "Glass Onion". Crashing drums.

The Who still have a few albums left in them. Namely, Who's Left and Who's Last.

It is ashamed that Ringo sucked so much, and The Beatles weren't that good, because if they were better, they would have sold 500 million more records than your favorite artist than the current 100 million more.

Who's last came out in 1983. Was a live album of their 'farewell' tour.
Pete T. still invented both power pop AND punk, so he's still a farking god in my book. He's my ultimate hero, in fact.

Zak Starkey is a pretty fair replacement for Keith Moon, but Pino Palladino is...well, he certainly ain't the Ox.

You can make a decent case for the power pop part of that statement, but punk?
No, no matter how you try to define it.

Of course he did. Just ask Jones and Cook of the Pistols.
Agressive music with first person lyrics growling about alienation, anger and frustration.
Dylan wasn't doing that, and certainly the Beatles weren't in 1965 when My Generation and Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere came out.

No Pete = no punk. Period.
