The way I read it, the girls receive Christmas presents, but they are "from Santa."

MorrisBird [TotalFark] 2008-07-24 08:14:18 PM
Yup, sounds to me like they come from Santa. Does submitter want to explain to those cute little girls that Santa doesn't exist?
Go for it, sports fan. I'll sit over here and watch.

I bet RON PAUL buys his kids gifts.

Mordant [TotalFark] 2008-07-24 08:35:20 PM
sounds like submitter understands the gifts to actually be from Santa and the parents have nothing to do with them.

Which about figures.

So, Santa covers Christmas gifts, and the girls get a really kick ass party and gifts from their friends on their birthday.

That monster!

This clearly proves that he isn't qualified to be president!
(sorry, was channeling a right winger there for a second, I feel much better now)

DaSwankOne 2008-07-24 10:51:18 PM
I actually think that this is pretty responsible parenting. My wife and I don't buy our kid presents. Santa does it. We also do not give her presents for her birthday. She gets enough at the party we throw her. Will be the same for future kids. Just one more thing that I have in common with Obama.

hubiestubert [TotalFark] 2008-07-24 10:55:47 PM
OK Talking Points Kidz, let's see you ask the hard hitting questions about why Obama LIES to children...

outback_rebel 2008-07-24 11:04:10 PM
Good. Kids get too much shiat as it is now.

saintstryfe 2008-07-24 11:05:20 PM
It's different, but not at all unacceptable. Good for Obama. He seems a very astute and practical person as a parent.

Better then the two falling-down drunks that Bush raised.

My parents always made a big show of my gifts being from Santa. When I was really young, i didn't care. By 5 or so, I still didn't care and knew it wasn't true. I never believe, I just wanted presents, the name on the box was immaterial.

What a horribly written article.

"Michelle Obama told PEOPLE: "Malia says, 'I know there is a Santa because there's no way you'd buy me all that stuff.' "

Wink.
"

Ok, that's cute, but where the fark is the clarification? I can see how some people might mean that as more than one thing:

-That "santa" buys them gifts at Christmas, so they DO get Christmas gifts, just not from "Mom and Dad" (so she's winking about knowledge her parents really do get her gifts)

-That they DON'T get any Christmas gifts at all, but they get all sorts of shiat for their birthdays, which makes THAT the day they're hooked up with stuff. (so she's winking about all the cool crap she gets for her birthday sleepovers)

The writer doesn't go into it any further, he just sort of assumes the reader will read into the "wink." What a dick.

I'll say it's the first one. Every Christian kid who has parents who can afford it receives Christmas presents.

Well, those that aren't dicks like this reporter.

Yeah, trying to have a sober and realistic view of the world can be troubling at times.

Seriously though, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, why? Did anyone really care about that shiat as a kid? Really? I mean, I played along sometimes, but it was bullshiat and I knew it and I thought everyone else did. I'd never tell a kid that stuff, it's pointless lies.

I don't think you should teach your kids your religion either, until they are at least 13 or so, but at least religious people believe the shiat they're saying. Santa Claus is just lying for lying's sake. If the kids really do believe it you're only setting them up for disappointment that reality is not as magical as you said it way, and if they don't then you are wasting everyone's time.

I did.

Back in pre-school, Santa gave me a bunch of toys from "Return of the Jedi".

I can't believe some of you guys are defending this. Granted, it's not a political issue, but it's still a dick-head move. Yes, it's smart to not spoil your kids, but no birthday presents? WTF?!

PS I heard Obama got mustard on his napkin while eating in Berlin.

My mother was clever. I swear I believed in Santa until I was at least 8. Don't even ask me how because once I actually stopped and thought I realized how insane it all is.

To be quite honest, I have no clue how much milk costs either.

Beer, OTOH, has definitely gone up.

Back to article, nothing too much to criticize the Obamas on except if those are all the rules their kids have to follow it's nothing and it seems like they're trying to show what great parents they are because their kids have to behave a little and do a single chore and don't get an exorbitant allowance.

But the lack of presents to "teach some limits"???

Hmmm...I bet they get pretty much whatever they ask for every other day of the year - spend "hundreds" on slumber parties? How do you even do that? Rent out a floor in a nice hotel?

EL_FABREZ 2008-07-24 11:58:56 PM
I was weened off Santa intentionally pretty early. My parents didn't want tons of gifts to be the focal point of Christmas. I appreciate them doing that, even though it completely backfired. Now I'm an Atheist who loves to buy everybody presents on Christmas.

Good lord! This is awful! Someone should call CPS on them and have those poor little black kids placed in a good white family. That way they can grow up to be coke-sniffing, boozing whores like the Bush girls.

I dated a woman whose parents practiced the same thing. I really admired her family for those subtle touches. The children would pick someone in their neighborhood and drop off a gift at their home instead. It was left at the door, and they knocked or rang and left. No credit to be taken, and only the thought of doing something for someone else kept them warm.

yea, I dig it. Kudos to the Obama family.

destitute college kid 2008-07-25 12:12:17 AM
RemyDuron: If the kids really do believe it you're only setting them up for disappointment that reality is not as magical as you said it way

I've made it to my mid-20s and I still have fortunately never experienced that disappointment. Reality's always been pretty magical for me. I'd say it has to do with my youthful inexperience, but I know 60-year-olds who feel the same way. I guess life really is just a state of mind.

/still believes in Santa Claus
//knows the giver is more important than the gift
///and all that other sappy shiat
