Yup. At the end of Rockin' in the Free World, I think he Neil might have had two intact strings left on his guitar.

Didn't notice anyone having a negative reaction to the political themes at the show here. And seriously, did people go expecting to just hear Cinnamon Girl and Our House?

"You want me to shut up or you want me to sing? What i'm sayin' is, if I shut up, I can't sing. And if I'm 'a singin' I can't be shuttin up'."

Yes that's what a lot of people want...I saw Niel back in the 90's on the Ragged Glory Tour that would become the Weld discs...He had brought along Social Distortion and Sonic Youth as openers, and the 40+ year olders were just freaking out...I watched two grown men, who had the look of white collar succesful types berating a 14 year old kid in a Sonic Youth shirt, while he was alone and now frightened in the bathroom....

And then after 45 minutes of Sonic Youth making out and out noise rock, Niel came out and launched into 20 minutes of pure manic distortion...It was absolutely brilliant...I'd say about 25% of the audience left, and Niel kept rockin...He'd take a break, and I'd hear the few oldsters still around us asking each other when he was gonna get to the acoustic part of the show or maybe play "heart of gold"...I laughed to myself and thought, wrong show geezers...He never brought the acoustic that night, he scared the oldsters and put on a hell of a great show....

I love the "shut up and sing" people..Dude, Niel has always been political, his songs have always been political...So why would you be surprised when you go to a show and Niel is political? Is it because you sold out the ideals of your youth when you took Bushco's slimy kak into your gullet and Niel didn't?

Keep on Rockin in the Free World

Neil Young's career:

1960s: I'm like everyone else. I hate you Steven Stills. I'm going to bang your girlfriend when you're not looking.
Early 1970s: This "distortion pedal" is awesome!!! Only the Stooges are making this sonic sludge. I think Graham Nash is gay.
Mid 70s: Everyone bought Harvest. I think I'll drive them away for my next three albums. Cocaine is a hell of a drug.
Late 70s: Every other band disbanded. Only me left. I rock!!!
Early 1980s: I hate David Geffen. fark you David Geffen.
Mid 1980s: See this album David Geffen? Well, you can still kiss my ass. Not releasing anything good until you kiss it. Kiss it!!!
Late 1980s: I bought another distorion pedal. See David Geffen? SEE?!?!?
Early 1990s: Everyone else my age, from my era, absolutely sucks except me. I bought some more distortion pedals.
Mid 1990s: Everyone else my age, from my era, absolutely sucks except me.
Late 1990s: Everyone else my age, from my era, absolutely sucks except me, except now I'm getting bored too. Maybe I'll watch TV.
Early 2000s: I finally got too old to "rock." Everyone else my age, from my era, absolutely sucks, except Bruce Springsteen, who was a few years later anyway. Dude, this Lost show is awesome!!!
Mid 2000s: Ok. I'll try again. fark you George Bush!!!
Present Day: What do you expect from me? I'm in my 60s now. I'm still better than anyone else my age. Go ask Stills, Townsend, Dylan, Jagger, McCartney and anyone else that was popular back then what they are doing. Ozzy doesn't count. The alzeimers hit him long ago.

Neil has been around for 40 years, and most of that time has been a "love him or hate him" artist. At this late date if you go to see a concert he's involved in expecting a greatest hits nostalgia fest then you really have no clue who Neil Young is.

just borrowed Chrome Dreams II from the library.

TG I didn't spend money on it; it's crap.

Gotta love people like Neil and Don and Bruce with none-to-little post high school education telling others what they should think.

Boring.

Grow up, guys; cash your checks, spend your money, shut up about politics and leave thinking to the REAL adults.

Think much of yourself, Neil?

You're a guy who knows three chords and can rhyme, thats about it.

Not his greatest work - not his worst either. I don't regret purchasing a legit copy. I don't regret buying Pegi Young's CD either.

I don't agree with a lot of what he has to say, but I don't begrudge him saying it and I don't ever remember him interrupting his music to preach any time I've ever seen him live.

Anyway, Bruce Barry died years ago, but I do have respect for the working man even if he didn't go to school as long as I did. I'm not sure who Don is.

Grow up, guys; cash your checks, spend your money, shut up about politics and leave thinking to the REAL adults.

Like you? What are your credentials?

Take people out of context much? Jealous that he can do what he wants and accept the consequences if some people don't like him for it?

Would you prefer....an "artist" that has no opinions and only plays songs that were hits 30 years ago?

Neil, Shut up and sing

Ever since he was making music he was putting political and social messages in his songs. If you ever liked him I don't see how you could have missed those.

Personally I think he's brilliant. Still making music (he never stopped), still open to new ideas on everything and still not afraid to speak his mind.
