Their name is Jonas.
They're carrying the tweens.
Thanks for all you've shown us.
Now suck on our peens.

Dr Hook doesn't care any more.

Exactly.

Even looking them up on wiki doesn't ring a bell.

So sad that Rolling Stone is more concerned with helping industry hacks prop up and push untalented nobodies than with promoting good rock and roll. If anyone was looking, they'd find amazing local rock bands in every city in the country. Bands with some balls and something to say.

Bands with Balls. Great name for an Idol series.

It could be worse. They could put a bunch of MTV reality show bimbos on the cover and devote 6 pages to them.

That's it. I'm canceling that subscription.

Let's cut Rolling Stone some slack. For every 6 or 7 covers like this they're usually pretty good about doing one or so on someone with musical talent.

//at least Taibbi is worth reading

Peter Travers spoils the twists of The Dark Knight in his review for it. Fark Rolling Stone.

I stopped taking that rag seriously once the put the Fugees on the cover and called them "the future of rock and roll." Sure, a band that made it big with a cover is now the future. Wankers.

metalmyth 2008-07-23 09:15:00 PM
I used to have a subscription to RS. I kept it for the bare minimum and didn't renew it because of stuff like this. My first few magazines ended up having panic at the disco and fall out boy on the covers. When they weren't pandering to the hipster indie crowd, the "rock" pop crowd or the R&B/rap crowd, they were hawking some horrible album with their meaningless ratings (And often said album would have lots of ad space in their mag)

In summary: fark rolling stone for thinking it still means anything anymore, and fark the jonas brothers. If you want to make kid music, stay in the designated kid areas.

the "hipster indie" crowd doesn't read this crap, and rolling stone is way too out of touch with any real hipster anyway. they're too busy realing the nme or pitchfork

monsieurstabby [TotalFark] 2008-07-23 10:52:04 PM
Anyone who writes a song called "I don't wanna go to school" should be shot. Then they'll have something real to biatch about.

metalmyth: When they weren't pandering to the hipster indie crowd.

No self respecting hipster would be seen with a Rolling Stone unless it contained an article that was hysterically bad.

Now if you'll excuse me I have some skinny jeans and a white belt calling my name.

You know, the funny thing about the RS "Hills" cover is, while all of you were knocking the downfall of a legendary rock magazine, my only thoughts were: "Boy, I'd really like to have sex with them."

/Read Paste. It's what RS was before it sold out.

Incredible Edible Tomatoman 2008-07-24 12:04:17 AM
Last great article I read in Rolling Stone was in 2003, the article that spawned Generation Kill. 3 parts of amazing writing. Then after two more years of uninteresting articles, I just let the subscription die.

Dr. Hook was a band back in the 70's and early 80's. They wrote a song about being on the cover of Rolling Stones.

//Have their greatest hits album

Looking through their book of cover, I'd say they've always been this way. Yeah, they had Jimi, the Beatles, janis, etc... but they weren't exactly above putting David Cassidy or Jon Travolta....

get farkin real

Jayzbo 2008-07-24 01:53:25 AM
they also had rush on the cover and a pretty good roots article not long back.

sure they are another one of these crappy mags that pushes the hell out of whatever the record companies are spending money promoting this week, but at least they still print articles blasting the republicans. I'll give them a pass for now.

With a wildly popular tour and a new record expected to sell millions, the Jonas Brothers have gone from Disney novelty to phenomenon. All they want is for you to see them as a real band

By JASON GAY

/that is all

Meh, a liberal rag pisses away its integrity.

7thVeil 2008-07-24 07:16:11 AM
Why is this surprising?

Rolling Stone ceased to be relevant years ago. Formulaic crap. (MTV, I'm lookin' at you, too!)

Anyone without children in the household wouldn't even know who The Jonas Brothers were, if it weren't for this kind of pandering. As for the lack of RS's integrity - they'll have the millions of dollars of tween allowance $$ to keep them warm at night.

Keep your damn kids out of my culture!

as far as the jonas brothers, I know the are a musical group, but I am just going to assume they also suck.

Rolling Stone hasn't been worth shiat in over 2 decades. It's the Hanson of rock mags. Soulless, shiatty and irrelevant.

Yep. The soulless, materialistic consumer zombies that read Rolling Stone are Democrats. Good people. Good people.

Jamdug! 2008-07-24 11:33:32 AM
I think we've pinpointed why the record industry collapsed. How do they expect to promote a band that no one on Fark has ever even heard of?
