I never thought this one was particularly difficult to understand. Sure, a word here and there was tough to decipher, but on the whole it was relatively clean (strange for Eddie Vedder).

"Oh the biatch is sad" is one I never understood for the longest time... mind you I have the album, which contains the lyrics, but I never bothered to look them up. The Yellow Ledbetter one CombustibleElvis linked to is a lot funnier.

the only one i heard as misheard when i listened to it [before seeing this] was the "her legs spread out before me, as he body once did" line...

There's a difference between misheard lyrics and lyrics that have been altered on purpose just because they sound like similar words in order to force a laugh out. I'd say this link would probably be more suitable for junior high kids and the way too easily amused. Failed to amuse me in the slightest. :(

Too lazy to link, but Nightwish's "Wishmaster" has an excellent misheard lyrics video. There's also a few for Sean Paul.

Think they should keep these videos to only artists that you can't understand a damn word they say, which is probably why I like these two.

For a long time my friend thought that when Ed took a walk outside, he was surrounded by donkeys at play.

It's ok, 'cause I thought the 16-gauge in Once was buried under Ed's nose.

Is there one for "Yellow Ledbetter"? because I bet they would be just as accurate as the "official" lyrics.

Pretty much.

OOOhhhh, "walk" is misheard as "wok" and "kids at play" becomes "Kid n' Play" lol!

Why can't Eddie Vedder just open his mouth when he sings? I like Pearl Jam as much as the next guy, but I feel kind of silly trying to sing along.

I'm sorry but that seriously cracked me up. My friends and I make fun of Veder's singing style all the time. He's the pioneer of how all band's lead singers sound NOW.

Pearl Jam sucks as much if not more than Nirvana.

There i said it.

That would be Green Day, who pushed forth the effort to fake accents, and 'sing' in a voice entirely unlike their own.

I like the cut of your jib.

However, worse generally popular 90s bands:

1. Alice in Chains
2. Red Hot Chili Peppers
3. Stone Temple Pilots
4. You get the idea

The good thing about Nirvana is that Kurt Cobain could, occasionally, at the beginning at least, drop the rockstar act and be a complete dork. See the Vaselines covers on Incesticide.

I agree mother mentor Eddie Vedder started a vocal trend that won't seem to die.

And DeathByGeekSquad Green Day had nothing to do with the "Seattle sound" style of singing. Billy Joe did the accent for a laugh and it caught on. He said "I'm an American guy trying to sound like an English guy who's trying to sound like an american guy."

I like both bands actually. They've both been around forever and have consistently put out good music. It's hard to say that for many bands today. So closed mouth singing and fake english accents for everyone. Huzzah!

Yes, someone indeed wasted their time and the rest of ours making this. Thanks subby!

Creative, if not entirely accurate.

The funny thing is, it's easier to understand Eddie live, than it is listening to the albums. He doesn't seem to mind using his voice as an instrument, similar to Robert Plant doing his wailing guitar routine with JP, it's just more emotive.

Black is not a favorite though, a bit dark for me.

Farkn Yaj Yenrac 2008-07-24 11:35:09 AM
Punk bands were doing the fake limey accent for years before Green Day, and Eddie Vedder wasn't the originator of the marble-mouth style of singing.
Don't spend too much time worrying about 'originality', there is no such thing. We are all the sum of our influences and experiences and bands are no exception.
