(Contact Music) Weird It hasn't been Easy Livin' for Uriah Heep. After an acoustic show in an East German salt mine in front of 2,000 boiled eggs, the band plays Germany again for inmates at Rottenburg prison: "They have a big psychiatric ward"   (contactmusic.com) divider line 9

"Rottenburg prison? That's a rough crowd. Spent a week there one night."

In the 70's I thought Uriah Heep was awesome, I saw them live 3 times. They were the loudest band I ever saw, so loud at one concert I had to leave. But I really came here to say that Mick Box, in my opinion, is a major underrated guitarist, I love his work on the old "Salisbury" album with the symphony orchestra, 3 really good guitar breaks in one song!

I have "the magician's birthday" on vinyl and i don't think it's very good at all. nothing really all that good about it.
maybe there's better albums by them out there, from the same time period, i dunno...

Bought both Demons & Wizards and Magician's Birthday in HS. Loved them then. Recently took another listen and kinda wish I had my $12 back, with interest.

But kudos to them for doing a concert in a mine. That had to be stupendously weird.

Haven't paid attention to them in so long, it was news to me this guy was now the lead vocalist.

David Byron, the original lead singer died in February 1985. FYI

One of the first ablums I bought was Uriah Heep Live. I also had the Magician's Birthday on vinyl a long time ago. Recently downloaded it from itunes, and I still like it.

I'd say get off my lawn, but my 20 year old son has some Uriah on his ipod too.
