Her reporter credentials were in there.

Was her secret decoder ring too?

Really? Calling the Romero Copter!

FTFA: "On a whim, she used her company phone to call her personal phone and a man picked up! ... The man on the other end was actually angry that Tara's wallet only had $3 in it"

he must have needed the bag to carry around his enormous balls

This article reeks of stupidity on so many levels.

WTF???? Leaving your windows down while interviewing people in a neighborhood so bad that the DCPD barricaded it to prevent further crime?

/people like her are jorb insurance for people like me :-)

"Tara knows that leaving the window down was a lapse in judgment but wanted to share her story to show all of us can be victims if we let our guard down."

But she's okay with that. Imagine if you got stuff stolen because you left your window down. Your wife or girlfriend would never let you hear the end of it.

A reporter's purse is stolen while covering a police lockdown of an entire neighborhood after seven people are shot. Guess what part of that statement gets its own story?

All of the statement.

Sure, the story sounds passively self-serving, but subby failed to see the related stories inset.

Please try harder.

When the suspect arrived on the scene with Tara's bag, the officers jumped out of the truck and chased them down.

So how many dudes stole the bag?

MunchCunch 2008-07-20 08:03:15 PM
I'm NOT sorry I stole the money!!!

Mwahhh ha ha

She left her windows down in Trinidad? She's lucky the van wasn't stripped or taken on a joyride by a 13 year old.

/work in the neighborhood
/getting kick out of replies

The man on the other end was actually angry that Tara's wallet only had $3 in it but later demanded $500 for the purse's return.

Wow..that's ballsy. How about I agree to the 500 bucks....and when you show up to get it, the cops stomp your ass into pudding?

Bit'O'Gristle [TotalFark] 2008-07-20 08:11:05 PM
Wtf is wrong with people anyway? First, you are a shiatbag for stealing someone's property. Then you biatch because there isn't alot of money inside? Wow.

Anyone else in the DC area not surprised by this?

Was I the only one who felt like this article sounded like it was and written for young kids or something? The language seemed "dumbed down" to me.

Then again, it wasn't exactly a hard hitting story...just the kind of feel-good crap that middle america loves...

Luckily, DC has some pretty stiff Gun Control legislation.

The criminals can sleep soundly tonight.

Except for that Raspberry dude....

chinesedentist 2008-07-20 08:26:23 PM
Great idea, setting a trap for criminals that had access to your home address, keys, and pictures of your family.

I'm sure she's sleeping well.

Police say they may face possible extortion charges.

Huh? What did the police do wrong?

G. Tarrant 2008-07-21 09:38:39 AM
The stupid thing is that these checkpoints don't exactly do much.

They set up the checkpoints a few weeks ago in parts of NE DC because of a weekend crime spree, but in the end, they found that a majority of the crimes in the spree were committed by people that already lived in the nearby area. That is, they're people that would have gotten through a checkpoint anyway.

It would be like police standing at the borders and saying "OK, only people that live in South Central LA can come in to South Central!" I'm sure they'd act shocked that it would affect crime not at all, because generally people don't come in from out of town to commit crimes there.

No one goes to those areas of Northeast DC unless they live there.

StarSys 2008-07-21 04:14:59 PM
Wait, what? They were ready for the criminals and they still got away? Copfailtards. Were these guys trained by Captain Lassard?
