Indeed, and I bet they placed the street value of those few plants at >$1 million.

/Perhaps they should start arresting people who are growing hemlock trees since they are quite a bit more dangerous.

When I read "Marijuana patches" I thought somebody was making transdermal patches with tetrahydrocannabinol.

I as well. I was thinking "Holy shiat! They have a patch now? Now I can be high at work and tell everyone it's a nicotine patch!" Thanks Mr. "Ruin my Hopes" Headline.

On a side note, has anyone had trouble getting into the threads? This one finally loaded for me after a while.

I thought it said "Rolling Stones". Combine that with thinking the same way as JesseL and I had a totally different understanding of the story.

That reminds me of an episode of "the Office" (US version) where the pizza delivery kid was stealing "hemp" from Dwight's beet farm property.

Part of the feelings that come from smoking the herb come from other cannibinoids present in the plant (which accounts for the different highs generated from indicas, sativas, and various blends)...which is why marinol and others have been unable to really match the beneficial effects of smoking some good bud.

Also, this poster from TFA made a great point:

SO why is this such a big deal? I could understand if they were making meth or cooking up some crack. It's pot. Their own pot that they didn't buy from some what the gov calls narco terrorist. WOuldn't it be nice it cops would go out and look for people who well do something other than grow some harmless pot.

Instead of American pot dollars going to Mexicans (which could fund the infamous violent narco-traffickers and their coca exploits) or Canadians (what with their flapping heads and all), they stay in America, usually locally, and do nothing but good economically. How is this a bad thing?! Fine police work there, Lou, taking money from nonviolent growers and virtually handing it to violent criminals.

/never buy from the ghetto, you might get crack instead
//happened to a friend of mine, freaked him out mightily

A buddy of mine's frat brother (in Auburn) went to Bankhead in Atlanta with his girlfriend to buy some weed. First, because he needed weed, and second because he wanted to see what Bankhead was like. A guy at a corner came up to his car and asked him if he needed bud. He pulled his cash out and the dealer shot him and his girlfriend and took the cash. They both lived, but it kept me away from any ghetto when it came to buying drugs or when I'm carrying any cash.

Matrix Flavored Wasabi 2008-07-20 10:52:26 PM
Damn. I think the Gainesville ghetto (I go to UF) is a little more tame, although I don't love the idea of driving through there at night blasting Crunchy Black with the windows down on the way to visit my girlfriend (she doesn't live in the ghetto). It is entertaining to go through there on a weekend night around 11 or 11:30, you get to see all the candy-painted hoopties rolling up to downtown to hit the clubs.

I think my friends mentioned the fact that they didn't actually want crack pissed off the dealer and he went missing for like 30 minutes, and when he came back gave them only a fraction of the weed they paid for, but they were too scared to do much else (being fairly well-off, if not too bright, whiteboys).

I love me some pot, smoking just 2 days a week makes it magical every time. Fridays and Saturdays are made that much more relaxing with a doobie and some friends.

What can I do about not wasting tax payer dollars on regular people who want to enjoy a doob on weekends?

There is no good reason for cannabis to be illegal.

dochook 2008-07-20 11:00:52 PM
Lucky for me! It's not a crime for me! I have really nice plants! all nice and purple with nice taste and dripping with oil.
Gotto go!

The state of California may not consider your cultivation a crime, but I guaran-farkin-tee you that the federal government would gladly kick in your door, shoot your pets, and throw you in prison for it. And they'd get away with it.

lazymojo 2008-07-20 11:30:02 PM
Always kinda wonder about how tough it would be to keep a couple acres wooded, and just grow a couple inconspicuous plants on it. You know, low key enough to plausibly deny I had anything to do with it...

Sounds like in this case, they made it a little too obvious, by having the plants right up next to the house.

FTA: A subdivision administrator noticed plants that looked like marijuana and called deputies

I wonder how the subdivision administrator in Ocala makes in salary because I predict a job opening there soon.

The marijuana was in Rolling Greens one moment, but suddenly the police raided, and the weed was magically teleported to Flushing Meadows, New York.

Big Gay Al swallowed about 250 grams of it though, and that is on the way to his Love Canal, which appropriately enough, ultimately empties into Lake Erie where all the **** goes this side of the Great Divide.

Whatcha do see, is ya' chop the elbow off of a wire coat hanger and bend a feature or two into it, bend over the plant, and plug the U of wire into the ground. It is amazing how well the plant can be secreted when it takes on an unexpected form.

There are some nice GPS-like systems now, US, EU, &SOV. Dithering has been switched off for a few years. Good accuracy is now achievable. Use one that works on a Palm or something. Try stochastic planting: Place little pieces of (appropriately cammo painted) plywood in the late winter. Record the coords, but be careful to encrypt (hashing w/ transcendental #'s, suitably hashed should be good, if the cops were capable of understanding mathematics, they'd probably have real jobs) them, pref. using reduced bandwidth techniques. Do not record the coords en clair, if they are found and associate with pot plants, you're screwed. Come back in spring, remove boards and plant seeds. Watersorb (in moderation) and roadkill may be used as soil adjuncts. When you return in fall, come in mufti. You are a photographer or geo-cacher or something. If yields are low, console yourself with the fact that so was the proportional effort.
Using a bicycle (or canoe) rather than an automobile is probably a good idea. If you are afraid of bogeys, remember that cops usually leak RF and everyone alive leaks IR, unless it is real(ly), real(ly) hot out. Use your sensors! To reduce mass of the payload, sometimes clipping the buds in the field and letting them dry for an evening is a good idea.
Or so I've been told. ;)

I can testify to that first hand. Synthetic marijuana substitutes didn't work at all for me, and why the hell was I forced by my doctor to even try? Big Pharma.

Just out of curiousity - what kind of punishment will they get? Would you possibly be looking at jailtime for growing a couple of plants in the US?

I once saw a trailer park, so I am really getting a kick out of these replies.

Depends on how you're charged. Federal, you'll definitely see some jail time. Most states too. Some states have protection for medical users, however this doesn't extend into federal laws where it's still illegal.

Evilhippie 2008-07-21 01:49:31 PM
That's insane... why haven't you taken your politicians out for an afternoon of electro chock therapy yet?
