If you care about the day to day changes in national polling data and you aren't on the payroll of either campaign or nation party, you are an idiot.

pretty much, this.

BTW- have any official debates been scheduled yet?

Electoral-vote.com has VA dropping into neutral, but has Democrats picking up Oregon and Alaska in the Senate now, 57-43.

I was wondering about that too. I know they haven't had their conventions yet, nor have either candidate selected a VP but you'd think there would be a preliminary schedule or something. Can't wait to see them.

Paying attention to polls this early is pretty silly.

Any bets on how many "poll threads" there will be this week?

Like it or not, it's a decent way to gauge the mood of the country in regards to an election that's less than four months away. I don't think looking at polling this early is a dumb thing at all, as long as you acknowledge that there's plenty of time for things to change.

What do these polls even mean? Do they ask whether people will vote for Barr? Do they ask how likely people are to vote? Do they count electoral votes?

All things considered, how Obama is in a statistical tie with McCain in the poll is beyond me. I was thinking he was 8-10 pts ahead easily.

I couldn't tell what the percentages were because there was a noticeable lack of bar graphs in the article.

For every greenlight, your e-peen grows 1/16th of an inch.

First presidential debate:
Friday, September 26
University of Mississippi, Oxford, MS

Oh my... The first new episode of Heroes on Monday, the first presidential debate on Friday, and I'll be on vacation with a sexy redheaded nerdy sci-fi loving political junkie librarian gamer chick that week (yay me! that's enough cliches to make just about anyone happy). It's a good thing we'll have satellite in our cabin, we'd both go nuts if we had to miss that.

Thanks for the info!

I got my month of TF from someone who I'd just called a SIF.

Pay attention to state polls (especially leaning/swing state polls). That said, I believe Barack has far more electoral votes from "safe" blue states, than McCain does with "safe" red states.

I suspect there will be a few new polls for VA coming out within the next week or so. Up here in Northern Virginia, there's plenty of Obama stickers and signs, but few McCain stickers and signs. Not that I'm surprised by it, of course. I think if Obama wins VA, it'll be the NoVA turnout that puts him over the top. Things are going to get really interesting here.

CustomAndy: All our soldiers are being trained on Iran simulations now

The job of the military is to be prepared for anything.

Canadian and American forces do training against each other in "hostile" exercises to simulate how utterly vicious a Canadian-American war would be, not just to be prepared for such an event but also to train against the best soldiers in the world.

Absolutely. That's way we have "plans" for an Iran war. We aren't plotting to attack Iran, but have strategies in place if the situation calls for it.

Do "we" have plans for an overthrow of a corrupt unconstitutional administration? No? Well before our heroz in the military bomb another country on the other side of the world they should check on that.

I think the Iran situation is really interesting. Israel is being used as an independent attack dog, making many threatening noises. The military is publicly making noises about invasion plans. But the White House is continuously in increasingly better diplomatic contact with Iran.

Maybe someone finally broke it down to Bush + Co. in plain terms that Iran is the best natural ally in the middle east for Israel and America.

The moon is actually made of cheese in fiction. In real terms, it's composed of rock and ice. Go live with all your Obama supporters in an utopian society right next door to the Ron Paul supporters' utopian society.

Hopefully the 'moderaters' will be tough and direct, not giving those pansy ass questions like some in the primaries.

clambam 2008-07-20 01:23:15 PM
The Republicans are hoping McCain will lose. The next president will have a lot of difficult, unpopular decisions to make in order to even make a start on cleaning up the mess left by the Bush administration. In other words, barring a miracle, the next president will only serve one term. The Republicans will be better served by sitting out this election, letting the Democrats take the blame for the inevitable snafu, and making plans for 2012.

Sample questions

To Obama: Would you consider Jesse Jackson to head the Department of Education?
To McCain: Do you think America is a nation of whiners?

Risky.

America will fall completely in love with a president that meets challenges well. We're so ready for that.

The next guy is going to get that chance - what, does his own party not think McCain's up for it?
