Are tropical storms really worth national coverage, or even much local coverage? I get worse weather events twice a week here in the summertime in Florida, no one talks about them.

Cristobal?

Isn't that what weather forecasters stare into to determine the future?

Yes. The 24/7 news and weather fools need something to talk about.

Additionally, there must be a Global Warming climate change tie-in. I think it's in their union by-laws.

Pictures of massive boobs, or it's not happening.

give me doughnuts: They really need the rain.

Not really. It's been raining regularly here since last fall and many areas are above normal for the year in terms of precipitation. The lakes are all full, the rivers are flowing well and have been for months.

It is more of the western parts of NC and SC that need the rain. This isn't going to help.

Thanks mostly to Bertha, the Atlantic season - as measured by the Accumulated Cyclone Energy Index (ACE) - is now about 6 times above normal.

Based on projections for its path, it doesn't look like much of a threat to anything but shipping along the Eastern Seaboard.

Any state that has it's own Fark tag shouldn't be warned. You should be locked in your basement with the necessary supplies already.

Christobal. What a wussy name for a storm. Just imagine, "Christobal destroyed my home. He didn't like my window treatments, had a hissy fit, and slapped it to pieces."

I want see a news reporter standing in hurricane winds with a big patio umbrella. Well, see them stand there for a second before they go flying. Up, up, and away!

Not that I want a hurricane to hit anyone, but our farm is really needs rain (like 6" or more). I hope no one gets hurt, but alot of farmers here want it to hit.

If this projection holds, then later this week may be a bad time to had to Brownsville, Texas. Unless you work for the Weather Channel.

They're calling for a couple inches of rain on the barrier islands this afternoon & tonight. Not a lot, but hope it helps.

Pretty much all of South Texas is in a drought at the moment.. The farmers down there would welcome a tropical system..

Not having been a life-long resident of coastal North Carolina, I don't really know what to expect with named tropical storms.

If this is it, the Midwest should get more coverage with just about EVERY summer thunderstorm that rolls through there. So far we've had a few rain showers yesterday (some a little heavy), a little windy weather, and partly cloudy skies all day today. And I live in the middle of the area of purported concern.

/Anticipate an ass-kicking with the next hurricane.

I guess moving all the polar bears to Antarctica won't help this situation.

Wait, what?

Don't know which North Carolina you are from, but most of the state remains in a severe drought.

Here's the thing: Ever since Katrina, the Global Warmening True Believers have been waiting for the big, horrible Hurricanes to return. Sadly they have been disappointed (maybe not a little humiliated) by all the hurricane seasons since, but since hope springs ever anew, etc. you get the overwrought announcements and patient tracking of every dinky tropical storm to pop up between May and October. "Could be The Big One" they think . . .

/no, this is not directed at all the rational believers in AGW, just the doomsday wanting, humanity hating types.

Oh please. The hurricane overhype for every tropical storm happened WAAAY before Katrina.

It's just now people in the middle boring states notice the coverage now.

It's not new.
