Hope and change. We need change to change things and hope to hope for things we need to change for change.

Here's a little hopeful gem of change from Portland Oregon...

Well in his defense, having beat Hillary and picked up most of her voters, the average IQ of an Obama voter dropped about 30%.

congratulations, NRO. after 18 months of lying, digging, crying and whining, you have finally found something that i believe actually reflects negatively on Sen. Obama.

Coincidentally, this is also the least relevant thing that has ever occured in the history of man.

I'm not convinced "picked up most of her voters" is accurate. Remember, no one is gonna pony up and pay Hillarys campaign debts. And Obama is basically snubbing the Dem establishment because he thinks he doesn't need their money. That may be true about the money, but he does need their influence and they aren't going to give it without getting something in return.

Probably true. However here in the rust belt, many are. Most are pissed too: they're unions are telling them Obama and you should hear them exclaim "can you believe I'm going to vote for a farking nubian?!?" Hit any bar in the Toledo area and you'll hear it. Except the ghetto bars of course.

I don't think we'll fully know the impact until after election day. I believe many will just keep their mouth shut or stay home. That was a particularly brutal primary season.

Indeed. Which is why I suspect quite a lot of people are taking the summer off and not worrying about the general election until after august.

My father of course insists that every minor setback for Obama spells his immenent doom. Which is a mindset I just don't understand. He's not even particularly a fan of McCain. It's like he takes the Obama nomination as a direct, personal insult or something.

I just don't get it either. Ok, I'd understand if he just said 'I don't like Obama's tax plans'. I can see that. It's a valid reason to not want to vote for the guy. But Dad was all happy over Obama posting smaller than expected fund raising numbers for last month. Never mind the fact that, as he well knows, fund raising numbers historically drop off between the end of the primary and the start of the party conventions. But he ignored all that. He was positively GLEEFUL over that relatively minor (and entirely expected) dip in fundraising numbers. In fact he was downright hostile when I reminded him that (statistically speaking) none of that made any real difference to anything in the upcoming general election.

I just don't understand where that comes from.

It's too early to be desperate. At least wait until a couple of protesters get beat up at the conventions while a TV crew catches it all on film.

When Kerry went down, there was gay marriage on the ballot. I don't remember the exact numbers, but overwhelmingly for Kerry, opposite for gay marriage in each precinct.

Talk radio. That's where my dad gets it from. Pretty much anything he comes up with can usually be sourced to that. He listens to it all day at work, and has as far back as I can remember. It's kinda cute in a *pats him on the head* way. I just let him talk and keep my mouth shut, no point in arguing.

Make that three. My father is the same damn way and I don't think he's ever voted Republican in his life. I can't explain why. In the heat of the Obama - Hillary showdown in the primaries he was downright hostile with his comments. He asked if I was voting for Hillary. I flatly said, "No." He asked why. I answered, "Because (I'm originally from way upstate NY) when she was running for the NY Senate seat she made all kinds of promises to at least try to help that economically depressed shiathole and, once in office, I don't think she ever set foot in the tri-county area." I asked him why he wouldn't vote for Obama. He said, "Because I don't trust him. Fark him." That's it. It was like arguing on the internet. I kind of wanted to hold up a picture of an lolcat or a Ha Ha Guy after he said that.

That's why gay marriage (and a great many other things) should not be a national issue. Let the states decide for themselves, and leave it at that.

True, however any legal marriage is binding in any state. I don't think it's a federal issue either- more things need to be up to the states....

I don't think the federal government is even capable of recognizing the states ability to govern themselves, let alone actually stay hand off long enough for the state legislatures to make up their own minds about this (or any other) issue.

wouldn't most of them claim to be voting Obama too?

The guilt trip campaign Obama is running is guaranteed to inflate his polling numbers. Not to mention that Obama's two main demographics are undependable.

But Obama supporters will just yammer on about Diebold and the Bradley Effect when Obama loses, instead of realizing that their candidate was the wrong choice for America.

well yeah - neither candidate is going to really nail down their policy platforms until the conventions. Given the lack of substantive comments, the media types are left to just make shiat up until the kick off of the campaign after the conventions are done.
