Every single thing McCain does is politically motivated. There, I said it.

Seems like the perfect way for McCain to end his career to me. After all, McCain's career has centered around losing bids to be the President. I just figured that was his "thing".

richard wolfe really hit this nail on the head. he basically said they are politicians, they are campaigning. everything they do is part of their campaign.

whether they like it or not, it is.

Eh, he was a good moderate Republican representing the fiscal responsibility wing of the party, who never strayed too much into the whole "socially conservative" thing until it became politically expedient. I used to really like the guy.

It's cute when McCain does it, though.

It's to see first-hand the latest results of politically-motivated decisions begun seven years ago, so of course it's "politically motivated." Really, unless you've got a no-bid crony contract & you're going for financial reasons, what other reason is there for going to that hellhole other than politics?

Isn't political motivation the only reason anyone but a soldier would visit there? Seriously, is anyone out there planning any leisurely trips to Iraq anytime soon? "Hey, honey, I just found out I have a three-day weekend coming up." "Well, slap my tits and call me Sally. Pack your bags, jiggles, we're going to Iraq. Wait right here and I'll go arrange our travel plans on badfarkingideas.com."

I'd love to see Obama just call this like it is: "Yeah, pancakes, it is political. I'm running for a political office and have been telling people I'm going to find a political answer to this political shiatstorm so I thought I'd go take a little political look at it. By the way, can I borrow your sweet wrap-around blue-blockers for the trip? I'll tell the folks at the diner to treat you right at the early bird dinner while I'm gone. What-what, son!"

Anything a politician does during a campaign is politically motivated. About the only thing they do that isn't planned and approved by their team of advisors is pooping.

Quick, someone call CNN, MSNBC and FOX! If we're going to see what the candidates are truly like when the cameras stop rolling, it's absolutely vital that we see what kind of faces they make when they poop!

/that's FACES, not FECES. Make damn sure the camera crew doesn't get that mixed up!

I can just imagine the meeting where the RNC came up with this one:

"Ok, what we are going to do is lambaste Obama for not going to Iraq for a few years. This will force him to take action. If he doesn't go we can continue to lambaste him for that, and if he does go we will have ole' John here accidentally tell the press when he will be arriving in country. If he doesn't get ambushed and asploded, we can go to plan B and just call him a politician. Meanwhile, we will co-opt all of his ideas and pretend they were ours all along. Everybody got it? Ok, bring on the hookers and blow!"

No actually he pointed out that Obama is making statements about foreign policy without even having visited the country in question.

It was a matter of experience, of which Obama has none.

He then correctly pointed out that the liberal media was quick to run to Iraq to cover their candidate and thus further prove that they are in the tank for him.

Kudos to subby for stating in a brief simple sentence what no reporter in the mainstream media would have the balls to report, or that any blonde bombshell reporter at Fox would have the brains to comprehend.

Kudos to Barack Obama for taking McCain up on his challenge.

Kudos to John "Straight Talk Express" McCain for making his campaign's motto just a dash more ironic. I love irony.

Yes, because walking around an Iraqi market for a 30 minute photo op surrounded by 200 soldiers is mucho good experience...

There's this new invention called the 'telephone'. Perhaps you've heard of it? You can actually call people in Iraq with it! Even the generals who have an understanding of what's going on there!

/Pretty neat!

McCain has made politically motivated trips to:

Iraq (with his bestest buddy Lieberman)
the UK
Canada
Colombia
and, Mexico

all since the last time he made a trip to the floor of the US Senate. It's been so long at this point, that it would be a news story in itself. I wonder if he'll do it this week, while all the media are distracted overseas?
