Not bad. i cant say im a fan of corey's new mask though...starscream seems to always have the coolest one from the gas mask to the skull thing.

I went to high school with Sid Wilson, so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies...

Really, I did go to school with him, he's a great guy and always left us guessing with what he'd do next.

People are pissing their pants over how great psychosocial is- why?

I mean, I would not say it is a bad song, but it's not "ZOMFG GUESS WHAT LISTENERS IT'S SO GREAT I'M GOING TO PLAY IT TWICE IN A ROW."

Dr.Knockboots [TotalFark] 2008-07-19 12:59:31 PM
To me the song is better without him singing.
His voice sounds forced if not fake, and doesn't seem to jive with the music. The chorus sounds okay though.

Not a metal fan, so I'm probably wrong.

Wintermute6 [TotalFark] 2008-07-19 01:00:16 PM
Well it's definitely better than anything off their last album, not that that's saying much.

Best slipknot I've ever heard. Hate just about everything they do.

i love heavy music but this shiat sucks.
if youve got a heavy voice, then use it. the out-of-nowhere singing in the chorus is out of character, and bad.
thank god motorhead is up next in my playlist...now that's heavy music done well.

Whatthefark 2008-07-19 02:33:52 PM
Meh. I hate metal singers who go between metal voice and mellow voice. Stick with one or the other.

FeedTheCollapse 2008-07-19 02:37:48 PM
why is that only teenagers and new army recruits like this band? I think I've yet to see any of their fans that didn't belong in either category.

only mike patton should be allowed to do that. everyone else sounds super queer when they do it.

So.... Were the new masks supposed to make the song suck less? 'cause if they were, I'd definitely go back to party city and get my refund.

Looking at it from a purely technical stance... If i had been the guy running the board the day he laid those vocals down, I think I'd have told him to actually scream, instead of what he laid down.

Having actually heard Slipknot for some number of years now... It really, really seems like the A&R people from their record company are telling them to just keep writing the same things over and over again.

//BTW, this technically isn't Metal, so to say.
//Listen to the new Opeth album instead. Much better for the brainwaves.

Gravyguts 2008-07-19 03:07:08 PM
over all the vocals sound like ass (no surprise there) and the music sounds alright. but I think we all need to hear the rest of the album to make an accurate verdict.

/Its gonna blow goats.
//I'll have proof.

No_One_Special 2008-07-19 03:31:47 PM
It almost had me until the chorus. I hate it when bands wimp out the choruses instead of pumping them up. The guitar solo is also meh, but his usually are. I really like Slipknot for the most part, but they always seem to fall into these two traps that keep me from really loving what I hear.

good song but not one of their best. the chorus does seem a little forced but it grows on ya.

btw im a 23 year old with a degree in applied computing and studying for my advanced degree and i love this band

The chorus is for the girls, silly! Gotta maximize your demographic.

Anyhoo, Iowa appears to be on fire, guess I'll alert the authorities.

browntimmy 2008-07-19 04:31:14 PM
A lesson to upstarting metal bands: If you throw in lame sing-along choruses you'll probably ruin the song but it will get you played on the radio.

+1 / This

Though, I have no room to talk. They've got a career, record contract, and plenty of money. I have none of those.

wow, I'm not a slipknot fan, but that was way more enjoyable than I was expecting. Tympani drums, everything on fire, cheesy slow motion... classic! I wouldn't listen to their music on purpose, but I was pleasantly surprised by that video.

Ah c'mon, I like Mikael Akerfeldt.

1) Holy pinch harmonics
2) Singing is gay for this kind of stuff, and the fanbase.
3) I've never heard a Slipknot guitar solo, just don't do that.
4) Telecaster, LOL.
5) Love the water on the cymbals, cheesy but fun.
6) The masks are over, though Slipknot isn't KISS, they're going to have to stick with it.
7) The song honestly isn't that bad but I doubt they wrote it.

this band is a one album wonder. their self titled one.

there underground "mate, kill, feed repeat... or how ever the hell it goes... was ok at best.

Guess I'm massively in the minority here, but I was thinking we needed a Badass tag for this one. Again, not your typical pyscho metal fan, but used to host a metal show called the Mosh Pit, so for me, I'm loving new Slipknot.

As for everyone who's ripping on the band/music for the people that listen to it, I could just as easily point and laugh at how utterly ridiculous the fans/music of most genres are. Every genre has its fans/bands that are just laughable, metal is certainly no exception. It's just yet another branch on the music evolutionary chain, and I think its extremely accessable if you're willing to have an open mind about things. The metal genre has quite a few acts that are suprisingly nuanced and even downright beautiful in the way they compose their stuff. It's just a difference in musical expression. But then again that's just the oppinion of an atypical metalhead radio producer, so go figure it out for yourself.

That's good because Slipknot isn't metal. They're 'Mallcore'.

slipknot does in fact suck. but i gotta give them props - they're making a ton of money doing it.

anyways - tr00 and kvlt metal warriors know that the most grim and inverted metal video evar is Immortal - Call Of The Wintermoon (new window)

HAIL METAL BRETHREN!!!!!!

I've always been a big Slipknot fan, and I approve of this song/video. Not their best by a longshot, but I'll take it.

/and no, I don't care if you think they suck, I'll still think they're awesome

TownDrunk 2008-07-19 11:35:11 PM
The people that say slipknot is numetal are usually hardcore death metal fans. Which is fine. I honestly can only take so much of the death metal growling. I'll buy download the slipknot CD. My favorite bands (lately anyway) are Machine Head, Mastodon, Shadows Fall, and Meshuggah. Not death metal, but by no means commercial.

TownDrunk 2008-07-19 11:54:29 PM
Without quoting the above idiot. (me) I realized that I haven't listened to slipknot in years. The 2 new songs are ok, "All hope is lost", being much better than the one in TFA. I guess they have a very short shelf-life for me though.

Why are bands like this so hung up on double kicks? I live across the way from this guy. You can always tell when he's working on a new tune, because you feel the ground going "thuddathuddathudda" in three minute bursts for an entire afternoon.

barefoot in the head [TotalFark] 2008-07-20 12:43:04 AM
In a Gadda Da Vida was heavy metal. This stuff y'all are talking about is some other thing. Too fast and manic to be "heavy" anything. Speed isn't heavy, acid is.

MikoSquiz 2008-07-20 01:05:48 AM
Silly masks aside, that's some pretty damn solid thrash metal for most of the track.

But while melodic singing in the chorus is always a good thing - gotta have a tune in there to break up the dull grey monotony of unalloyed chunka-chunka-chunk - that chorus there sounds like the farking Backstreet Boys.

i didnt say one HIT wonder. i said one ALBUM wonder.

theres a pretty big diffrence in the two. i have that self titled, everytime i put it on i listen to every second of it. its amazing. but ive also tryed listening to all there albums after that one, and i think they suck. not the same energy, not the same technical guitars going on.. etc.
