As of Monday morning, investigators were still trying to determine the circumstances under which a 13-year-old Fulton Junior High School was struck by a freight train and killed at the Lincoln Avenue railroad crossing in O'Fallon.

WTF? 13 YO junior high school struck? Train woulda lost that.

I'm always amazed how many people end up getting hit by trains. I mean, you know exactly where that goddamn thing is going to be, and if you stay just a few inches outside that range you'll be perfectly safe. It's not like it's going to swerve and clip you.

In my hometown I used to live beside a set of tracks, and one night a woman was hit and killed directly behind our house, drunk from the bars on Main St. and running from her boyfriend, with whom she'd had an argument.

Another time, I was riding an Amtrak train from Pittsburgh that hit an old man's car at a crossing in Big Beaver, Pennsylvania (yes, really: Big Beaver). His little sedan came to rest about 100 feet past the crossing, and right beside the car where'd I'd been sitting, so I had a great view of the firemen and paramedics arriving to pry the poor bloody old fart out of the wreck.

Do you know how much of that collision I felt, riding in the train? Not one damn bit.

And the headline is outstanding. There are far worse songs to get stuck in your head. Bravo, subby.
