Good. Now don't let that prick back into any office other than janitorial.

Why do Americans hate America?

Hobodeluxe [TotalFark] 2008-07-18 08:24:55 PM
one lobbyist down,60 something to go.

SpinStopper [TotalFark] 2008-07-18 08:35:07 PM
Gramm, of Texas, told the Washington Times last week that the nation's economic troubles are only a "mental recession" and said that the U.S. economy is "not as bad as you read in the newspaper every day."

Yeah, I'm just imagining the prices at the gas pump, grocery store, retail, not to mention the power bill and other utilities.

Plus, my roommate is just imagining that, though he's working for the same company and does the same job, his pay has been cut twice as an alternative to being laid off. And I'm just imagining not being able to find a technical job to save my life.

Mental recession my ass.

Cewley [TotalFark] 2008-07-18 08:54:24 PM
didn't know it was a republican requirement to release ALL embarassing statements after hours on friday.

strangeguitar 2008-07-18 08:59:47 PM
McCain doesn't need a young 66 year old whipper snapper anyway.

oldebayer [TotalFark] 2008-07-18 09:04:45 PM
Subby missed his/her chance for greatness.

What a waffler.

RagingLeonard [TotalFark] 2008-07-18 09:05:47 PM
Damn!
We almost kicked another scumbag out of Texas and into Washington.
.

so close.

bulldg4life [TotalFark] 2008-07-18 09:12:02 PM
I wonder if McCain will change all of his economic stances back to what they were right before Gramm became an advisor. Some of them weren't half bad.

SilentStrider [TotalFark] 2008-07-18 09:37:52 PM
good.

Now STFU and disappear from the public eye.

moothemagiccow 2008-07-18 09:44:46 PM
Only two weeks too late, too.

Cewley: didn't know it was a republican requirement to release ALL embarassing statements after hours on friday.

Pretty much anything that's true, as well.

I think this is McCain trying to reach out to the Bush vote. He'll hire the same group of lobbyists and incompetent insiders, but he's willing to fire them when they do something stupid.

That's called being a maverick in Washington

eqtworld: I never got the pancakes joke

The source of the joke is this article from the Onion

Right. He's so Maverick he and Bush are adopting Obama's foreign policies. Timetables for troop withdrawal in Iraq. Negotiations with Iran and a surge in Afghanistan with strikes inside Pakistan.

SeismicJizzer 2008-07-18 10:02:57 PM
how many officals have resigned from McCain's campaign now?

The current ones or the previous ones?

Jacobin 2008-07-18 10:07:52 PM
I enjoyed the part about Phil Gramm that his wife was on the board of Enron making $400,000 a year for attending four meetings a year at, coincidentally, just the time that Gramm pushed through legislation legalizing Enron style thievery.

Zimbabwe or Washington, DC....which is higher on the corruptometer?

Love the Orwellian flavor that one has, Luntz is outdoing himself.

a horizon is something that you can move towards forever and never reach. so a time horizon is a time that will never come.

I don't get it and it sort of scares me. Maybe they are hoping that it all backfires so then can argue that Obama's policies would be a disaster. I really dunno.

At any rate, it will make the transition to an Obama WH very easy if all his policies are adopted before he gets there.

Hagbardr [TotalFark] 2008-07-18 10:10:44 PM
SpinStopper: Mental recession my ass.

I suppose I'm imagining that my company has had a hiring freeze for almost a year now.
I'm imagining that one of the ladies in my office has been a temp for over a year because they can't hire her.
I'm imagining that my accounts are pissed off because their shipments are going out late. Why? Because the warehouse staff have been cut to the bone.

Yep.

milk_plus 2008-07-18 10:16:43 PM
I hear that it's a largely psychological resignation.

TaGirl_Keri 2008-07-18 10:17:27 PM
He should be OK, there's plenty of whiners on Wall Street.

Nurglitch 2008-07-18 10:20:26 PM
"Gram quits McPancakes campaign. What a whiner winner."

Sorry, pet peeve.

Manic_Repressive [TotalFark] 2008-07-18 10:25:45 PM
Wait a minute...I heard Sean Hannity tell a whiny liberal caller that Gramm was removed from the campaign days ago. Surely that Great American (insert little TM thingy here) Mr. Hannity wouldn't tell a fib, would he?

/yeah, I listen
//he's the funniest thing on the radio for my drive home
///thankfully my drive is only 20 minutes

HAH! Thanks! I missed that one, but was going to keep my trap shut. Figured I'd let somebody else ask. And, eventually, someone did ;)

Digeratus 2008-07-18 10:38:56 PM
After all, we've sort of become a nation of Gramm.

Wait, that's not quite right...

The only cliche more frequently used than McCain/Pancakes is "I don't get the correlation between John McCain and pancakes."

What a shocker...

Fart_Machine 2008-07-18 10:47:46 PM
Funny, all the folks who were defending Gramm seemed to be absent this time.

Or maybe they're travelling.

Selected quotes.
What a warm heart that man has....

* "Has anyone ever noticed that we live in the only country in the world where all the poor people are fat?" - During his first Senate Campaign against Democrat Lloyd Doggett.

* "Most people don't have the luxury of living to be 80 years old, so it's hard for me to feel sorry for them." - In response to a claim that a Social Security proposal would hurt people over 80.

* "We're going to keep on building the party (the Texas Republican Party) until we're hunting Democrats with dogs." - As quoted in Mother Jones, August 1995

* "If you are willing to tackle the tough issues, you don't need to worry about stepping on anyone's toes; they will stand aside and shove you to the front." - As quoted by former Gramm staffer Wayne A. Abernathy[16] September 12, 2002, before the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs.

* "I have as many guns as I need, but I don't have as many guns as I want."

* "We have sort of become a nation of whiners. You just hear this constant whining, complaining about a loss of competitiveness."

Which all beg the question: does this guy have any farking clue what he's talking about? Is he really an expert in any field, or have any knowledge or skills that warranted the position of trust and authority he was granted?

Isn't that true? Hell "the poor" people where I live have cable tv, a car and air conditioning.

/I go to work each day to make sure they can maintain the life of leisure they enjoy.

Still beats that stupid milkshake meme.

Phil Gramm was right in the first place. We whine while people in third world countries starve to death. Phil has done a lot of great things for our country and its ashame he quit.

DanUFfan 2008-07-18 11:49:09 PM
It's too bad he quit, because he was absolutely right. Many Americans are whiners. They are too stupid to realize it.

Funny thing is, alot of those whiners will be voting for the democrat party this year. So sad.

Corpus Delecti 2008-07-18 11:52:20 PM
My guess: 99% of the people that use that retarded "pancake" meme in headlines referring to McCain have absolutely no idea why they're using it, other than "I saw some other guy use it."

robbiedo 2008-07-18 11:52:56 PM
I listened to the Phil Gramm speech, and that ranked as one of the dumbest things I ever heard out of a politicians mouth.

Either way, I already ate McCain's pancakes and support his campaign.
