If you call
I will answer.

If you fall
I'll coke you up.

Wait, so Miley Cyrus can take her clothes off and fool around with a 22 year old (with Pedobear taking pictures) but a guy can't have a little coke and a three way with some ugly chicks? What is this world coming to?

When is a musician doing drugs even real news?

Apples in Stereo were always better anyway.

BNL's most recent album "Snacktime" is pretty good (if you're under age 5 or have children that age). There are at least five awesome kids songs on it. 5/24 isn't great, but compared to other kids albums I've heard recently, it's still pretty good.

itazurakko [TotalFark] 2008-07-18 12:52:37 PM
I did know that because NPR had a feature on it a few weeks ago. For kids' music, it was pretty good - the band stated specifically they wanted the songs to just be quirky songs that can appeal to adults too.

shackelford 2008-07-18 12:52:39 PM
You'd have to be doing drugs to fall all the way down to kids' music.

HKWolf 2008-07-18 12:55:02 PM
Really? Kids music? I loved BNL...but really?

I rarely hear any BNL music anymore. Sad.

Is that how he lost all that weight? He used to be pretty chunky. That, or he's only eating Kraft Dinners. ;)

These two were engaged and hosted a popular kids show in England. She ODed in the bath and was scalded to death. He hung himself from the rafters of a train station weeks later.

Did they ever play anything else?

JJ Money 2008-07-18 01:04:55 PM
MMW did a kids album too.

Page is totally, totally busted. That being said, the fact that he was doing blow is nothing new. That his personal life is all f*cked up and he was in a trailer trash domestic dispute is more why he got busted. He wasn't exactly living large, that's for sure.

Not anymore they aren't.

unintentionally hilarious Raffi quote:
"He has long been a firm believer in the beauty of children, and very open about expressing the firmness of his beliefs."
C'mon someone has to have an unflattering anecdote concerning children's entertainment. This is like the third BNL-coke thread.

can't they just play their Hookers & Blow tour on Disney After Dark?

Has someone been reading Pedobear's book of prose again?

My daughter has been buying lots of this kid music for my grandsons and I'm really surprised at the quality and some of the artists involved, like Barenaked Ladies, They Might Be Giants, Lisa Loeb, Dan Zanes (Del Fuegos), Mark Mothersbaugh (Devo), Christian Jacobs (Aquabats), etc

I love when people who have never heard BNL's non-hits say stuff like this. Many of their deep cuts are anything but poppy.

When did they change their name from "They Might Be Giants," though?

Suomi:

Thank you!!! I was thinking the exact same thing. It's a shame that they have so many beautiful songs that some people will never listen to because they think "BNL is just frat boy music" or some such nonsense. Then again, they probably wouldn't appreciate them anyway....but it is their loss.

In reference to TFA, it's kind of a bummer that he got busted after they released the kid's album. However, I think the guy has the right to do whatever he wants to his own body. Cocaine is something I would never try myself (I get amped up enough from caffeine, thanks); but it's not like he was forcing other people to do drugs...

On that note....along the lines of what Glitchwerks said: The Miley Cyrus situation is almost worse, because these "tweens" are idolizing her. Most of the little kids listening to Snacktime don't have a clue who he (or BNL) is.

/just my $.02 (American; not sure what that translates to in Canadian...)

Why would anyone be inclined to listen to more if the hits are crappy pop?

NikolaiFarkoff [TotalFark] 2008-07-18 02:54:31 PM
While I'd love it if hits were representative of the entire album, they generally are not. They're like standalone money-makers.

That said, I really like BNL but have sadly never seen them in concert. Hopefully this doesn't spell the beginning of the end of the band.

BNL did kids stuff a looong time ago.

/Obscure?

Puhonix 2008-07-18 03:16:30 PM
Sure, make fun of kids music, but if you saw the money invovled... Have you see Hannah Montana racking it up? Go ahead, tell your kids no, you can't have it.

Damn! Never saw this coming from the band. Saw both BNL Cruises, did not sign up for the third. I am at a loss here since I have been following then since they started.

I just saw them at the Cisco Live event in Orlando a few weeks ago.. Wow!

So let me follow this logic here:

All Barenaked Ladies songs are for kids.

"In the Car", too?

/in the car
//it was mostly mutual masturbation
///although we spoke of penetration
////I'd have to wait for someone else to try it out
//SANDINISTA

I remember when the Bare Naked Ladies were going to "host" the Saturday Morning cartoon lineup on the WB many years ago. Initial promos were calling it "Naked Day" but when that Saturday actually came around it had been mysteriously renamed to "BNL Day"

Philfish21 2008-07-18 09:36:14 PM
BNL puts on a good show and this story does surprise me.

If he wasn't doing drugs, why was he there? Isn't he married with kids?

Dude?!

I hope it's all a BIIIIIG misunderstanding.

They were one of the most annoying forces in music in the mid to lat 90s. They rank up with Chumbawumba and 3 Doors Down in relevance. It was a very horrible time for music.

strangely enough, a gis for 'barenaked ladies' actually turns up pictures of the band.
/the album is lame sauce

You do know the whole thing about Chumbawamba being formed in the early 1980's, having about 75 songs better than "Tubthumping" and putting out an album called Pictures of Starving Children Sell Records? (they were anarchists and the American public adoring "Tubthumping" was only part of their plan).

In other news, if you are a rock band and you DON'T do coke, you probably suck. Hell, i think you suck if you're a social worker who doesn't do coke.
