That's not the way it works. A congressman (Murtha) cannot direct the Pentagon to do anything. Murtha will just have to go back to falsely accusing soldiers of war crimes.

Ahhh, the Light Blue Service is at it again...

I remember a conference for Pacific Fleet one time where a huge bunch of flag officers were flying into NAS North Island. CINCPAC at the time had a P-3 to ferry him around, but the Air Force contingent arrived in a fleet of five Gulfstream III jets.

I'm not sure, but I think the Army guys showed up in one of those busses like they had in "Major League". Really showed who was spending money where.

I've watched while over a million in fuel alone was wasted just so the captain could impress his friends.

When I was in the Air Force, we had a deployment exercise where we were sent to a FOB and had to play act for a couple of weeks. The cadre in charge put us in temper tents, and while talking to one of them, he said that downrange, the Army puts 16 people in one temper tent; the Marines put 14; and the Air Force put 10. Oh, and the Air Force's temper tents were air conditioned with cable hook-ups....

Awwwww you're cute, thinking the Pentagon listens to Congress. Do some research on the Pentagon's "Total Information Awareness (TIA) Program". It was a program to spy on Americans. Illegal. Congress told them to end that program so the Pentagon said "sure" and then continued the program, just changing the name to the "Terrorism Information Awareness Program". Congress found out (not thru their efforts but the media's) and said "OK, now we're cutting your funds". And the Pentagon was like "Awwwww we so bad. Sowwy." Guess what? The program STILL exists. But the Pentagon said "We won't use it on Americans. Honest. You can trust us THIS TIME". Yeah right.

Well, at least they didn't have to hot-bunk like the guys in the 688Is I worked with. You get your own private drawer even!

I used to spend a lot of time at PhibBase in San Diego and I don't recall seeing any of the SEALS training in airconditioned tents, neither with the ForceRecon guys in Pendleton

So calling the USAF PJs the toughest is a little subjective...

If we could find a capacitor and inverter large enough, we could probably power the country just by hooking them up to Eisenhower's grave.

Can they do a pallet drop with them?

In defense of the Air Force, they were only told twice they couldn't do this. If the government was serious about it, they should have set up a committee at the Pentagon level with oversight in to both the Air Force and navy (Navy has cargo planes too). This committee would travel from Wash DC to various military installations (OKAY just Hickam AFB in the winter) to ensure all members of the requisite military is aware that they cannot misuse military funds for comfort capsules.

The committee would produce a PowerPoint presentation, a web based training and a DVD extolling to virtues of not wasting the G'ment's money. All personnel would have to watch one of the above and sign a document stating that they saw said PP, DVD or web cbt. This document would be copied three times and stored with the personnel's file, security officer and for personal record.

Then the Air Force would announce they plan on building several Privacy Pods. Please start back at the top of this post.

I could give a fark about the troops. They signed up for death, who's surprised when they get it? What kind of moron thinks they're "serving their country" when they're at the whim of a leader elected by less than 25% of the population?
