Isotope 2008-07-17 05:38:00 PM
Nah, my Mom wasn't big on Barry Manilow. Freddy Mercury, on the other hand...

jaylectricity [TotalFark] 2008-07-17 05:39:46 PM
My mom was more into the J. Geils Band.

"Whammer Jammer" and "First I Look at the Purse" for some semblance of win?

JerseyTim [TotalFark] 2008-07-17 05:41:00 PM
Your mom would hit it anyway

You mean Beanie MacDonald?

My mom would do David Gilmour in a heartbeat. Not Barry Manilow.

Maybe he was just trying to lose weight...looks like he made it.

/sorry for that

He looks worse than Doug Wilson on Trading Spaces.

In all seriousness, I fear it might be.

Your mom might want to do Barry Manilow, but Barry Manilow wants to do your dad instead.

Or it's the wasting. Awful either way.

Damn, guess that was a woman's emaciated bare ribcage and not a dude's- anyway, meth. I'm voting meth.

He perhaps cradled folks in an elevator to sleep... but he is no rocker.

My name is Barry,
Sing like a fairy,
I sing bad songs about romance while I'm wearing spandex pants,
I'm kinda shrimpy,
My songs are wimpy,
I had a series of big hits, but that was back in '76,
Now no one wants to hear,
They only laugh and sneer,
They won't admit that they own my albums, 'cos my songs are queer

(Chorus)
Got a nose shaped, like a banana,
My two fans both live in Montana,
Got a nose shaped, like a banana,
Up my nose you could fit half of the city of Atlanta,
I write the songs

I got a honker
The size of Yonkers,
When I get a stuffed-up nose, I need Dristan in a hose,
But now I'm on the case,
My life is back in place,
And so I'm singing again and sticking my schnozz in your face

(Chorus)

/from some morning radio show, God knows how many years ago
//the tune should be obvious

Lorelle [TotalFark] 2008-07-17 07:12:41 PM
My account is overdrawn, my car slid down the hill
I'm givin' up, I've got no more to give
My beagle bit the vet, and my daughter's on the pill
And my ficus plant has lost it's will to live

I owe Mastercharge my life, I've got adolescent skin
My doctor says I can't use any salt
My waist is getting thick, but my hair is getting thin
And my house is on the San Andreas fault...

I need your help, Barry Manilow
I'm miserable and I don't know what to do
Sing me a song, sing it sad and low
No one knows how to suffer quite like you

My shrink is out of town, my love life is a joke
My ex-wife sold my diary to Rona
All my ashtrays are overflowed, and I don't even smoke
And my sinuses came back from Arizona...

(Spoken) "Hello, Mandy? It's me. I'm here at the Copa. You know, the Copacabana. I know I don't write the songs that make the whole world sing but I do know one thing, Mandy... I can't smile without you....Forget Lola.... Remember that weekend in New England? I thought then that this could be the magic at last... Now here I am... Tryin' to get the feelin' again!"

I need your help, Barry Manilow
I'm all alone and sitting on a shelf
Sing me a song, sing it sad and low
I feel like feeling sorry for myself

I need your help, Barry Manilow
Your songs can really comfort the unlucky
Sing me a song, sing it sad and low
I wish I didn't have to feel so yucky...
I wish I didn't have to feel...

So yucky!!!

/Ray Stevens is a genius

He needs some high calorie foods ASAP.

I remember all my life
Raining down as cold as ice
A shadow of a man
A face through a window
Crying in the night
The night goes into

Morning, just another day
Happy people pass my way
Looking in their eyes
I see a memory
I never realized
you made me so happy, oh Candy

Well you came and you gave without taking
but I sent you away, oh Candy
well you kissed me and stopped me from shaking
I need you today, oh Candy

I'm standing on the edge of time
I Walked away when love was mine
Caught up in a world of uphill climbing
The tears are in my mind
And nothing is rhyming, oh Candy

Well you came and you gave without taking
but I sent you away, oh Candy
well you kissed me and stopped me from shaking
And I need you today, oh Candy

Yesterday's a dream I face the morning
Crying on the breeze
the pain is calling, oh Candy

Well you came and you gave without taking
but I sent you away, oh Candy
well you kissed me and stopped me from shaking
And I need you today, oh Candy

Well, Im a J Geils fan too but to be honest I saw Manilow 16 years ago and he DOES (or did)put on a great show.

So did Neil Diamond when I saw him two consecutive nights in the late 80s.

What can I say? You gotta have an open mind when it comes to music.
So slag away cuz I know some of you are going to anyway.

Seen Dylan 25 times and Sprinsteen 22, AC/DC, Neil Young five or six, Grateful Dead three times, Bob Marley, etc etc etc
Saw Leonard Cohen before he qualified for AARP, so yeah, my
bone fides are in order.

Oh yeah, one night two weeks ago at Summerfest, the world's largest music festival, I saw A3, Alejandro Escovedo, The Thievery Corporation and the Wailer, Yeah, all in one night and for $15 too.

Yea, an open mind helps. Tool is my favorite large act. I like Battles. And some classic Japanese noise like Murzbow and the awesome Melt Banana.

Yet I still rock shows like Stevie Wonder (last week) and this weekend I am seeing Julie Andrews- that's right... JULIE F'IN ANDREWS. I like all kinds of stuff. Seeing Donna Summer next month. Then I got Brian Wilson and then after that I got Nick Cave with Spiritualized.

You guys who are stuck in a 'niche' because you think it's cool are missing some great stuff.

Love Barry Manilow btw. My favorite rock singer of all time is Freddie Mercury and it sure seems like that's what is going on here. Google some pics of Freddie just before he died. It's goodam tragic.

pwhp_67: Is it the AIDS?

I'm just surprised it took this long.

At his age and with his money, it may not be AIDS, though; and I doubt it's drugs. (Haven't heard it thru the LA rumor mill) No one dies of AIDS wasting anymore.

Other than the weight loss he looks fairly healthy, so it could be some type of kidney or colon problem; although since he lost the weight so fast he might well have cancer and just not be telling anyone. He has been out of public view for some time.

Bwaahaha! My mom swoons for Carey Grant. Because he was married several times, she refuses to believe that he ever could have been teh gay.

Ooh, almost forgot, my first ever concert was Barry Manilow! I was in 6th grade.
I do enjoy a lot of his 70's songs... "Ready to Take a Chance Again" and "Could it be Magic" are especially beloved.
