Mitt Romney's false assertion that Sen. John McCain "said that [Donald] Rumsfeld needed to go"

He said he needed to go to the BATHROOM. Get it right.

John McCain said that the surge would work? Funny, I seem to remember a picture full of McCain quotes where he said it wouldn't work at all.

I suppose Romney isn't necessarily lying per se, but he's definitely being tricksy. Wicked. False.

Well...yeah. Liberals are all effete, latte-sipping college-boys gabbing about where to get their chests waxed and how to turn kids queer. Conservatives are virile and masculine and drive trucks and stare with steely resolve into the middle distance as they ponder what work needs to be done.

Didn't you get Rove's memo?

You mean the media failed to report something that didn't happen?

Horrors! I bet they failed to report that we've won the war in Iraq, too.

No, they failed to correct an assertion that it DID. You moron.

How to "Straight Talk Express":

1) Send out surrogates
2) have them make up lies about you pandering to the audience
3) When you are asked about it then say they were wrong (this will be buried on page 18 or not see the light of day)

It's similar to Bush's lie on Monday morning, retract on Friday evening strategy.

McCain has been parsing his words on this for a while, now. Parsing them to get people to believe he helped change the strategy in Iraq.

Which he may have "behind the scenes", but said time and time again that it's the presidents job to determine who works for him -- not that THAT has anything to do with saying:

"Rumsfeld is a useless swine whose inaction in time of war has killed my fellow military men -- not only should he be fired, he should be arrested"

bwesb 2008-07-17 04:09:55 PM
Would it be too obvious to point out that "calling for his resignation" and saying that Rummy "has got to go" are two different things entirely? As a senator, calling for his resignation would be an an official act on McCain's part whereas saying "Rummy has go to go" is a baseless opinion similiar to his Beach Boys "Bomb Iran" comedy bit ["Hey hey, ho ho! Donny Rum has got to go! Hey hey! Ho ho!].

In any case, who really gives a fark? The media makes mistakes too, damned near all the time since some news channel is always on somewhere - sometime.

I'd go for a girls of MSNBC spread. Mika looks good. Rachel Maddow tries desperately hard to hide the fact that she's teh hawtness. Of course since CNN raided the goods (Campbell Brown and Soledad o'Brien) I don't remember who else could make the list.

By the way, the JibJab bit that everyone is passing around; yeah, it is that damned funny; all of it.

Waitaminnit - so the McCain camp is mad that MSNBC incorrectly gave him credit for making statements that would indicate sound judgment, and enhance his credibility? I don't think they've thought their cunning plan all the way through.

Oh, and:

Don't give the liberals so much credit. they aren't manly enough to grow more than peach fuzz on their chests, and they are way to afeared of pain to wax that.

Media matters? Putting forth distortions? Shocking.

Aldo the Wonder Dog 2008-07-17 05:27:22 PM
Slow day at Media Matters? I actually wasted my time reading that article and man, does it split hairs.

Whether McCain specifically used the specific words in question, there's no doubt in any of his comments that he repeatedly suggested what he thought of Rumsfeld by either answering the question or saying it was Bush's problem to deal with. How much more direct does one need to be than, "No confidence"?

Man, take a pill and go find some news. McCain's got plenty of real problems. This ain't one of them.

And leave Mika alone. She refused to read a Britney story as the lead which puts her at the top of the heap for journalistic integrity in my book. Plus her dad's the best interview in town.

A girl's gotta eat.

I don't see how anyone with half a brain can tolerate watching ANY cable news channel. They seem to deliberately try to insult anyone who likes thinking for themselves.

Fox, CNN, MSNBC, all just different flavors of shiat. Totally worthless. At least newspapers can be burned or used to pack china.
