Hancock? I'd rather be homeless.

meh. In 1994, for the RNC in San Diego, the mayor, local government and law enforcement simply 'relocated' the homeless to rural areas. The officals knew the homeless couldn't get back to the area near the RNC in time to be captured on camera.
Stay classy, San Diego!

To clear the street prior to the 2004 GOP convention NYC police gave their homeless people free room and board!

Of course it was in jail, but surely that's better than any cultural event.

I can guarantee you my mother will dust off the fake beard, Judy Garland tramp costume, and bindle and be first in line for the swag and freebies.

The woman still has a veritable fallout shelter with enough Howard Johnson Diner ketchup, salt, pepper, and saltines to get her through the apocolypse.

Manic_Repressive [TotalFark] 2008-07-17 02:51:52 PM
There's homeless people in Denver? I'd figure they would all move somewhere warmer. I mean it's not like they don't have the time to travel, and aren't all the roads out of Denver downhill (the city being a mile high and all)?

That much salt...was she planning on mummifying herself to survive the end times?

... and how do the movie theaters, Denver Zoo, museums, and other cultural things feel about that?

I'm okay with letting the politicians see the rotten fruits of their labor. Hell, personally, I'd LOVE to see a homeless guy piss on Hilliary Clinton's shoes.

if only there were places that these people could go during the day. say from 9-5.

I was in Denver not too long ago and I don't recall seeing buttloads of homeless people. In any case, these farkers work in WASHINGTON D.C. you can't tell me they don't see shiat on a daily basis that is 20 times worse then Denver'e homeless citizens...

Hey look senator! more black on black crime!

The one good thing about post 9/11 security:

Panhandlers, hare krishnas, and charity employees are no longer allowed inside the terminals at LAX. Back in December '99 I was flying to Hawaii, and this one guy was asking for cash....apparently, he needed a plane ticket to Denver. ORLY? He had no bags, and was only wearing a t-shirt and shorts....not exactly prepared for that winter weather in Colorado.

/He should have said Phoenix....at least that would have been somewhat believable.

The Libs got this all wrong. What they should do is parade the poor house-defficient people in front of the cameras and claim that its all Bush's fault. That's some good marketing right there.

So what? Usually, the cities that bend over backwards for the homeless are farking dumps.

I wish Seattle would do that...send all of them to Yakima.

/But they don't have the balls.

THIS. We need the public to see why it's time for change. Show everyone who four more years of Bush policies will get us.

Yeah, because we all know that Bush invented homeless people. And vaginal warts. And all the other bad stuff.

BTW - Bush can't run for another term. FYI.

Whaddya mean? McSame is running for Bush's third term....

IMO this is just asinine, the city should leave the homeless as they are. So just for once the democrats will actually see the effects of their fear mongering and listening to George Bush. And maybe they will grow some balls and challenge the current policies.

Actually, the homeless situation is getting out of control here in Denver. I'm from Chicago so I'm no stranger to homeless, but if you happen to land anywhere directly east of downtown, you'd see why Dthe city is so concerned.

So what you're saying is that the dems should jail them thar bums instead of educating them.

typical.

The_Sponge: I feel sorry for the theater employees who are going to have to clean up after them.

That's the first thing I thought of, too. A homeless dude almost got me fired when I let him fill a comp cup with coke and then yelled a thank you about it from across the lobby.

Anyways, think about this: if you were homeless, then the streets are where you live. And during the convention, there are going to be thousands of people on the streets. It would be like having thousands of people walking through your home. That's why the city sends them to the zoo and all so that they don't have to deal with that.

/Or, at least that's how I'd spin it if I worked for the city.
//Maybe I'll put that on my application.

How about we loan the homeless the foreclosed homes on the market? Maybe they can't afford a downpayment, but sub-prime loans should fix this problem, right? Right?

/maybe I haven't thought my cunning plan through

I've only been to Denver once, and I've never seen so many homeless people in one place ever in my life. Hundreds of people in a single block; yeah, things were really bad during the Reagan years but I never imagined any city in North America having THAT many homeless people. It was seriously disturbing. And this was during the month of March.

I had an image of Denver as modern forward-thinking city, but it was as dirty and ugly as anyplace I've ever been.

God damn that entire city :)
