Huh?

I don't know anything about the guy but he is a real pain in the ass when you are trying to play Guitar Hero III.

..before people start with the, "how can he be in a million dollar band and claim to be communist shiate," I just want to say he is asked this question, and has answered it, in almost every interview he does.

You are not clever by trying to point out this seeming hypocrisy.

So called facts are fraud
They want us to allege and pledge
And bow down to their God
Lost the culture, the culture lost
Spun our minds and through time
Ignorance has taken over
Yo, we gotta take the power back!
Bam! Here's the plan
Motherf*ck Uncle Sam
Step back, I know who I am
Raise up your ear, I'll drop the style and clear
It's the beats and the lyrics they fear
The rage is relentless
We need a movement with a quickness
You are the witness of change
And to counteract
We gotta take the power back

If Obama would play that song before one of his rallies it would be incredibly awesome.

I for one, am glad to see RATM back together.

Always enjoyed their music, not always agreed with their politics though.

Still want to see them in concert someday though.

I won't attack their music because if they would STFU and just play it would be decent.

I know he's a Pol-Sci major from Harvard but I'm upset that he uses his musical talent to spit his socialist propaganda because he isn't able to accomplish anything with the degree he got.

ZachF81: socialist propaganda

A good friend of ours once said that if the same laws were applied to U.S. presidents as were applied to the Nazis after World War II [...] every single one of them, every last rich white one of them from Truman on, would have been hung to death and shot-and this current administration is no exception. They should be hung, and tried, and shot. As any war criminal should be. But the challenges that we face, they go way beyond administrations, way beyond elections, way beyond every four years of pulling levers, way beyond that. Because this whole rotten system has become so vicious and cruel that in order to sustain itself, it needs to destroy entire countries and profit from their reconstruction in order to survive-and that's not a system that changes every four years, it's a system that we have to break down, generation after generation after generation after generation after generation...Wake up.

Come on, although ya try to discredit
Ya still never edit
The needle, I'll thread it
Radically poetic
Standin' with the fury that they had in '66
And like E-Double I'm mad
Still knee-deep in the system's shiat
Hoover, he was a body remover
I'll give ya a dose
But it'll never come close
To the rage built up inside of me
Fist in the air, in the land of hypocrisy

Movements come and movements go
Leaders speak, movements cease
When their heads are flown
'Cause all these punks
Got bullets in their heads
Departments of police, the judges, the feds
Networks at work, keepin' people calm
You know they went after King
When he spoke out on Vietnam
He turned the power to the have-nots
And then came the shot

Yeah!
Yeah, back in this...
Wit' poetry, my mind I flex
Flip like Wilson, vocals never lackin' dat finesse
Whadda I got to, whadda I got to do to wake ya up
To shake ya up, to break the structure up
'Cause blood still flows in the gutter
I'm like takin' photos
Mad boy kicks open the shutter
Set the groove
Then stick and move like I was Cassius
Rep the stutter step
Then bomb a left upon the fascists
Yea, the several federal men
Who pulled schemes on the dream
And put it to an end
Ya better beware
Of retribution with mind war
20/20 visions and murals with metaphors
Networks at work, keepin' people calm
Ya know they murdered X
And tried to blame it on Islam
He turned the power to the have-nots
And then came the shot

Uggh!
What was the price on his head?
What was the price on his head!

I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard, I think I heard a shot

'He may be a real contender for this position should he
abandon his supposed obediance to white liberal doctrine
of non-violence...and embrace black nationalism'
'Through counter-intelligence it should be possible to
pinpoint potential trouble-makers...And neutralize them
,
neutralize them, neutralize them'

Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!
Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!

Huh? He plays acoustic hippie songs in coffeehouses and he released an album that did a rinky-dink 25,000 in sales. WTH does that have to do with questioning his integrity?

RATM is about the politics, they've said as much. Don't like the politics, don't listen, they won't change.

And I've decided that, if there is ever a Grand Theft Auto movie, there needs to be a scene where the main character brutally murders a bunch of cops while "Killing In The Name Of" plays in the background. It'd be over the top and ridiculous and give great joy to the 13 year old anarchist in us all. "fark YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME! fark YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME!"

Not that RATM is only for 13 year old anarchists, but there is only a certain level of political sophistication you can achieve in a song. As Dylan said, "Songs can't save the world."

...but you know what, this is America. In America, success is determined by fame and wealth. I'm willing to lay cash money that Tom Morello has champed at least 95% of the same American right-wingers in both categories.

I hate people who think it's okay for only those celebrities who agree with you to use their status to push a political message. What, it's not cool for RATM to write and play a song criticizing American politics (forget partisanship), but it's all sunshine and rainbows when Billie Jo Chickenfarker writes and plays his next big hit, "Yee Haw We're Gonna Bomb them Sand Nigras ('cuz We're 'Murica!)?"

I'm fairly certain that "white boy" doesn't really describe this band. You also failed to point out that, without his strings Tom Morello would sound like sh*t. Also, without his picks, he would sound like sh*t (and his hands would be f*cked). Furthermore, withou his tuner he'd sound like sh*t.

You're just a goddamn musical malcontent... SRV is average, Tom Morello is just a whammy pedal, blah blah blah. Newsflash, hater: the pedal doesn't write the riffs, doesn't create the sound, doesn't orchestrate or arrange. It is just a tool that no one has used as effectively as Tom Morello.

Now let me quote myself:

Sure being a rock star is cool, but you dont need a political science degree to be one. He could have been a politician and in my book been 100 times more sucessful because he could have made an actual difference.

Although theres not an office in the country he could get elected to with his views.

Heard this line a million times. I'm perplexed why some people just don't get it. Actually, I do but I don't want to troll.

Art is the product of the artist. As with any artist you don't separate their thoughts, experiences, and agenda from their art. It's how artists communicate.

He gets a degree in political science, then through his understanding of politics develops an extremely successful artistic endeavor that spreads his political message. He uses this endeavor to endorse movements, rallies, and others of similar political thought. So basically what you're saying is, because he doesn't work at a desk his job isn't political and has nothing to do with his studies.

I disagree, and think yours is a strange basis for an argument.
