(AP) Cool Rush to appear on Colbert Report. Submitter was going to make some sort of "2112" or "Moving Pictures" reference before realizing this is, in fact, Rush the band, not Rush the Limbaugh   (hosted.ap.org) divider line 99

I would farking love to see Limbaugh on Colbert. Colbert would put him right back into that drug addiction.

Mr. Coffee Nerves [TotalFark] 2008-07-15 03:06:35 PM
Colbert's stage can handle the strain of three men and all their music equipment. Limbaugh would require substantial reinforcement and the dressing of young male interns in burkahs.

I hope Colbert rips Rush new ones.

Ah crap, TV Guide lists 2 times for the show, 8:30 and 11:30PM PDT. Which one do I watch?!?!?!?

Meh. If it were limbaugh, I wouldn't miss it for the world though. That's potential comedy gold waiting to be tapped.

The new show for the day shows at 11:30p, the 8:30p show that is on 3 hours earlier is a repeat of the previous day.

So in essence, if you miss it on Wednesday, you could watch it at 8:30p on Thursday and still see it.

/It looks like it's on 3-4 times per day (showing the previous days episode).

for some reason I found

not Rush the Limbaugh

rather amusing.

It's easy to tell Rush from Rush Limbaugh. One of them is shrill, long-winded and mystifyingly adored by millions. The other is, um ...

one appeals to lonely, angry white males who live in their mothers' basements and the other is a canadian rock band?

Wait, I thought she was the little bald one on "Benny Hill" who always got slapped on the head?

Here in San Diego it's:
jean shorts
flip-flops, maybe tennis shoes
Any hair is likely
Usually a Rush t-shirt
A couple of spliffs

Thanks for the info.
My co-worker is a prog-rock fan, and just made the same reference.

Me: Rush is going to be on Colbert tomorrow night
Him: Cool. All three? Geddy Lee, Neil Peart, and Alex Lifeson?
Me: Actully... yes. Yes they are.
Him: (astonished look) wait, are you serious? I thought you meant Limbaugh.

That supposes he ever actually got out of his drug addiction. Do you honestly believe that happened?

Rush Limbaugh is too much of a coward to actually appear on a live debate show where the microphones are not controlled exclusively by him.

HulkHands [TotalFark] 2008-07-15 04:45:43 PM
I hope they play like REM did. That was great, as was the awkward stool-bound interview afterwards.

Rush the Limbaugh?
Is that a title like Jabba the Hutt?

JerseyTim [TotalFark] 2008-07-15 05:22:06 PM
I'd rather see Limbaugh than the band on Colbert. It would make for interesting TV. I wonder if Colbert has ever asked.

Solid State Vittles 2008-07-15 06:02:57 PM
Is Colbert going to interview them too? I care because, well, what about the voice of Geddy Lee? How did it get so high? I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy.

SilentStrider [TotalFark] 2008-07-15 06:04:01 PM
holy freakin' crap this is awesome.

What makes it even better?
I'm seeing them live the next night. WHOOOO!

Don't want to contradict what others have said, because technically they're correct. However, if you have DirectTV, you might be getting the east coast feed as I was when I had it. The 11:30 airing would actually air at 8:30. (It's all very confusing)

Mugato [TotalFark] 2008-07-15 06:43:12 PM
Hey, Rush got even more long winded and pretentious and he sounds like someone put his nuts in a vice.

Cut his nuts off!

(Not Geddy - he doesn't need any help. I mean the subby who beat me by 12 minutes. But in good faith, you had the better headline. Salut.)

Not a huge fan, but curious---is there a specific reason they haven't performed on American TV since 1975? No SNL? Even more surprising no Fishin Musician with John Candy on SCTV....

ollin 2008-07-15 07:26:33 PM
All awesomeness aside, is this the direction that the Colbert Report and Daily Show are going? Having live bands perform from time to time in lue of interviews?

Surool [TotalFark] 2008-07-15 07:27:04 PM
Phil: I'm gonna raise the warning system from "Blackwatch Plaid" to the cover of Rush's seminal album "Moving Pictures."

Bonus Colbert/Rush reference

Might as well. I can't watch his interviews. He interrupts the guests until they can't get a word in edgewise. I know that's his shtick but it's farking obnoxious.

YEAH! Just saw them in Manchester a few nights ago. They were good, but not as good as I remember them even a few tours ago. They seem tired.

Anyone heard any rumor about Neil wanting to give up the touring life?

Ender's [TotalFark] 2008-07-15 07:51:26 PM
Full of fricken win!! I would imagine that they are tired. They've been touring almost every year since..? Umm I was born?

Awesome - setting the DVR for this one. Just started picking up the Rush catalog on CD since I don't pull out the vinyl all that often anymore. I currently have everything from Rush up to Moving Pictures on CD (and I'm driving the wife crazy with Rush playing every time she gets in my car).

Yup, they've been touring forever. First time I saw them was in 1976 as the opener for BOC.

Hey this is pretty sweet, I had never really listened to much Rush before this weekend. I got free VIP tickets to their show on Saturday and it was awesome. Neil Peart is the man, I never understood this till I saw him play in person.
