lol. how are they gonna rally against a system which gives them their voice? Bush, a war criminal? Under international law? I don't know enough to make an informed decision but I will go as far as to say Bush's actions are questionable.

Rock bands and logic are not something that usually goes hand in hand together.

RATM communist? uhmmm they seemed firmly lodged in the capitalistic scheme of things it seems like....

excuse me to scoff at that statement , given they ve done an ad for THE GAP

and what is their excuse to the pathetic irony that their are wearing a communist leader on their chest, someone who fought and died fighting the evil forces of capitalism , to end up on a shirt mass-produced and sold in very capitalistic store
is a cheap irony, but one nevertheless

I wonder if the "Recreate '68" assholes are gonna blare RATM on a boombox in Denver this August before one of them hucks a brick at the cops, and the cops respond by shooting that sonic riot control thing that makes you shiat your pants on the spot.

One can only hope.

*AND* how do or could they reconcile their "communist" view with the fact that they prostituted themselves for money by doing a song specifically for the "Godzilla" soundtrack ???

No, no... i do know about the video. What I saw was a poster about 20 feet tall, for clothes, saw that in New York around 1996... now because I cant find anything on the net about it, im second guessing myself if its the GAp, now. but in looking and searching for that on Google I saw their very capitalistic clothing lines , which is not quite as incriminating, but pretty bad....

do you have your hip "RATM" shirt and cap for the revolution?

If in protest to their war you burn down the American embassy... It's up to us, generation after generation to beat the system which perpetuates war.

That's a brilliant strategy.

No. You're woefully ignorant if you believe that. American patriots didn't send death squads after people. They didn't execute people without trials for suspected defections. They didn't lead suicide squads then flee to safety themselves, leaving compatriots behind.

On the other hand, the man you tossed in as a comparison, Thomas Paine, wrote pamphlets, opposed slavery, believed in a minimum wage, and free public education without killing people.

So the next time you think you're bright, do a bit of research first to keep yourself from looking like a complete idiot.

Just because you disagree with Rage Against The Machine's politics or don't like their music doesn't mean it's not a valid point.

(Personally, I think the lionization of Guevara is a bit ridiculous, but I do like some of RATM's music.)

The Bush Administration SHOULD be held responsible for war crimes. What about Abu Ghraib? What about Guantanamo?

Here is a great article
on Che.

FTFA: Since the Soviet Union was too soft for his tastes, there were only two countries that Che found truly admirable: Maoist China and Kim Il Sung's North Korea. He bragged that there was "not a single discrepancy" between Mao's world view and his own. As Che was happily fawning over Mao in the flesh in Beijing, in the surrounding countryside there was an epidemic of mothers cutting off the flesh from their inner thighs to feed it to their starving children. The programme that caused this biting hunger - the mass collectivisation of the farms - represented "true socialist morality", Che said. The dictator killed 70 million people in the end, cheered on by his guerrilla friend at every stage.

They are against Bush because that is the current republican posture.

Whoa, hey, everybody! Never mind how the current Bush Administration has farked up monstrously; them RATM felas are waering Che Guevara shirts!

/For the record, the first RATM album came out in the early 90s. so it's not not like they're an anti-GWB project

//Many of their lyrics, about how people are easily distracted from the issues that actually effect them, are proven true by this thread

Possibly, he means that the US is responsible for far more deaths in that part of the world than Che.
