Seems like things are calming down a lot if the Prime Minister can walk around in public handing out cash.

Good for them.

So, uhm, does that mean he's coming here to give us back the money we spent, too?

It comes out to about $25,000 per household. (new window)

We already got back, or will get back, most of that money. The multi-trillion dollar cost estimates include future expenses like buying new equipment to replace what got used up or worn out as well as present expenses like salaries and consumables. That's largely going to American individuals and companies.

Someone should notify the Treasury so they can cancel all that debt currently nearing $10 trillion.

Note how easy it is to give away the USA taxpayers' money to others, while it is difficult to give the money back to the people they took it from.

If you think this is a sign of a good, stable country, you are insane.

This shiat gets more laughable everyday. LOL, I don't even care anymore until they start drafting, then I will begin to revolt, as i am sure, many others will.

The average taxpayer will see none of it.

"USA: President asks Congress to pass a bill for him to sign in order to authorize the Treasury Department to mail people $600 checks. Iraq: Prime Minister roams the streets handing out cold hard cash"

So it was good fiscal policy to give back money, in the middle of an expensive war, a (not a recession!) bad stretch for the economy and jobs, and (now)a bailout of the 3rd largest bank ever to fail (IndyMac)? With possibly Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac almost on the edge of a gov't bailout as well?

Sure, Dubya can give me as much money back as he wants if he wants to be held accountable for the crumbling economy. Oh sorry, Phil gramm, I didn't mean to whine.

cold hard cash

Is it really cold cash if it's in the desert? You would think it would be hot sweaty cash. Sweaty things make it softer so really, it would be hot soft cash.

The United States has been doling out cash itself, most effectively to former Sunni militants who switched sides to fight al Qaeda.

The "broken window" theory of economics. If I use an american made brick to throw in your window, you'll pay an american glazier to replace your windowpane, who'll pay his expenses to other american companies, and the whole economy will benefit!

That is what I was wondering. That oil money was supposed to pay us back for liberating them, at least that is what the American public was told in order to sell the war. Well that and low fuel prices from freeing up all that oil.

No, no, no, we were assured by monkey boy that this was not about oil. So, how could oil possibly have been an incentive to go to war (which was never declared).

I think the point was that if the Prime Minister can walk around handing out bills and not get shot or blown up, this is an indication of improvement.

No, the fact that he's walking around handing out cash does not itself speak to stability in the least.

May have something to do with the amount of taxable income you made last year. I didn't make that much, and mine was $343.00 as opposed to $600.00.

Don't know for sure though.

How exactly do normal people, who don't own ammunition companies/the like get back their tax monies from the war?

Actually that's incorrect, or more precisely backwards.

The payout drops $50 (i think) for every $1000 in taxable income you had over $75,000.
