Actually, those prosthetic attachments are apparently more than adequate when it comes to running. I remember a story a while back about the controversy over whether a double amputee should be able to compete in the Olympics (I think) because his replacement limbs may have given him an unfair advantage over the normal runners. (And I'm not sure, but I think he may have had a pair of normal-looking legs which he switched to when he wasn't racing).
