I have nothing to say, but I'm thinking about a bunny with a top hat on its head.

Why are they called top hats? Is there some tawdry alternative?

Gene Wilder looks much better as Willy Wonka in a top hat than Johnny Depp does.

Can we bring back bowler hats? This list proves the top hat is played out, but nothing says rakish refinement to me like the bowler.

Top hats, monocles, canes...don't know why that shiat ever went out of style.

shadow9 2008-07-13 06:22:01 AM
it is settled. monday i will purchase a top hat, possibly a cane as well.

JonnyBGoode 2008-07-13 06:22:23 AM
If you're gonna go with the bowler... one man is at the top of that list. Nobody ever pulled off a bowler like Patrick Macnee.

And on the bottom of that list, these two.

Post pics? Seriously, I'm so for it. I was for it when they were available at Hot Topic, I've just never seen one not perched on a fat girl's head.

JonnyBGoode 2008-07-13 06:36:37 AM
They still have them at Hot Topic, last time I was in there.

I've tried to wear a bowler before; I just don't look good in them. Haven't tried a top hat - maybe someday. But for now, I'll stick with my trusty fedora. You can't go wrong with a fedora.

Stratos 2008-07-13 06:38:31 AM
By the way, did you notice that Britney Spears and Winston Churchill are in almost the same pose in their top hat pictures? Seems intriguing, doesn't it?

no

We could all be looking like this all the time. Side note- I bet they don't sell at lot of free-standing hat racks these days.

Gotta love the juxtaposition of Brigham Young and Slash.

It is rather sad that hat-wearing mostly died out in the 60s, in most of the population anyway. Certain segments of the population still have a hat-wearing tradition but it's mostly a forgotten part of our culture.

So THAT'S where the Gallagher brothers got that from.

well except for the idiotic backward baseball cap.

I Think hats look good on Dudes, the right type of hat looks good on a girl, but I personally hate to wear them. They make my head sweat and my hair smell nasty.

I also don't like some of the stupid hats that some women wear. Why would you put a bizarre thing on your head that looks like a domino or a fruit basket?

Oh yea, forgot about those. And cowboy hats, at least among urban cowboys and vaqueros.

well, here in Houston a lot of Businessmen wear Cowboy hats, but at least it is part of the local culture.

I'm getting a Top Hat this fall for foxhunting season. Always wanted on, but figured it would look silly on a younger man, but now that my gray highlights are coming in, it should look rather dashing...

/$600 at Horse Country...

I tried to get my fiance to do the bowler hat and umbrella (he already has the three piece suit that he looks dead sexy in) but he wouldnt go for it

in the meantime I have one of these

especially good when you want to look somewhat Carmen Sandiego-ish (goes great with a trenchcoat, opera gloves, boots and a cigarette holder

Yea I know. I wear a fedora much of the time; partly because I love the look, and partly because I have a swing band so I have to look the look. But it's funny (and somewhat annoying sometimes) when people see a hat and automatically think (a) Dick Tracy, (b) Clark Kent or (c) a pimp.

Oh, and I was dressed as one of the Blues Brothers once, on my way to a gig, and got asked, "hey, are you a rabbi?
