And let's not forget the people that actually trust the government to some degree, not to mention the ones that ignore the government altogether.

Part of the cost of freedom is security, or it should be. I will never willingly sacrifice liberty for security.

This law will cripple the work of those of us who as reporters communicate regularly with people overseas, especially those in the Middle East.

Okay. I see your point.

It will intimidate dissidents, human rights activists and courageous officials who seek to expose the lies of our government or governments allied with ours.

Interesting, tell me more.

It will hang like the sword of Damocles over all who dare to defy the official versions of events.

... And now you sound like a crazy person.

Obama supports FISA (new window)

For cryin' out loud. FISA is for wiretapping calls coming from foreign countries into the US, especially the calls that hit the birds in space.

When Osama calls his buds in the Hamptons, he'll stand a chance his call will be monitored. Even then after the call has been intercepted, a court order will be needed to use the information. When Christiane Amanpour calls her hubby from Jordan, someone will just say "meh...it's just Christiane Amanpour" and will pull the plug.

To quote Jeff: Get over it.

I had started to question voting for McCain simply because I heard that Obama would call off the DEA marijuana dogs.

That is relevant to my interests.

Now I see that he is no better than McCain at all, which I knew before.

Guess I'll be writing a lot more letters. Good thing I stocked up on Forever stamps.

I wonder, did it even occur to all the neocons who pushed and pushed for this to consider that once the political winds change, this law could be used AGAINST them?

Or are they all planning on skipping the country like Rove did?

You are actually mistaken.

Digital communications (which is anything riding on fiber) originating within the united states are collected enmasse and without filter, then stored for search and sift at nearby facilities by NSA and FBI resources.

This FARK post is being archived.

But since this post says nothing about bombing DC I got nothin to worry about? Right?

/Oh shiat...someone just knocked on the door...
