I've always thought a Democratic candidate could do this right if they played it off with the right spin. I'm not sure Obama will succeed. First point -- It's a bottom tier team (but with a popular old school driver.) So he gets plus points from Schrader fans, it's cost effective (sponsorship costs less) AND it can be totally spun as "helping out the struggling little guy" in an era of big corporate NASCAR teams.

The potential "FAIL" comes from two things. First, BAM is a crap team that has only raced once this season and isn't even as competitive as it USED to be (which was not much.) It might not make the race, and could easily become the butt of many jokes. Even if it makes it in, the car will probably go 20 laps before falling out with "brake failure."

ALSO (and this is big) BAM racing changed to Toyotas from Dodge, hoping for factory support. Toyota is at best grudgingly accepted in NASCAR. Beyond that, you can bet the Republican pundits will be filled with extreme levels of false outrage over him sponsoring "ONE OF THOSE DAMN FOREIGN CARS TAKIN' OUR JOBS!!!11"
