(CNN) Amusing At odd times in the race, Barack Obama has entered events to U2's "City of Blinding Lights," Springsteen's "The Rising," or Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come." What has John McCain picked? Muzak   (politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com) divider line 46

I don't care for either set of choices. What has Ron Paul picked?

Nothing. Music isn't mentioned in the Constitution.

Farking American Idol campaign.

Or you could pick one on their judgment, which could be shown by choosing to open a campaign event with a song from 1910 being sung by a barbershop quartet...when a common criticism is your age. I'm not saying to be painfully lame and namedrop some rock band from today, but.

From TFA: McCain's advance staff has apparently been sampling a slightly more low-key soundtrack, comprised of songs...

Composed of! Damn it, the songs comprise the soundtrack, the soundtrack was composed of songs. NEVER ever ever is "comprised of" correct!

And VH's "Right Now" was a Bush I-era hit, not a Reagan-era. 1991.

Obama would make a much, much better president than McCain. Not for this reason, though.

I was hoping for a change, but now I've got "the lesser of two evils". Great.

kevorting 2008-07-11 08:56:20 PM
Despite the mostly mellow tones emerging from McCain's events this week, there were still a handful of up-tempo moments. In fact, the campaign brought things forward somewhat after today's town hall, blasting a few Reagan-era pop hits like Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" and Van Halen's "Right Now" as McCain shook hands with audience members.

Ouch. Remind me not to attend a McCain event. I'd rather hear a barbershop quartet. And how much do I want to hear a barbershop quartet? Barbershop quartet, wisdom tooth removal? I'm still thinking.

I think it will always be like that now.

McCain should come out to the 'Leave It to Beaver' theme.

"A Change Is Gonna Come" is one of my favorite songs.

Obviously not why I'm voting for him, I just thought I'd note that.

Maybe that's because McCain can't find an artist that will let him use their copyrighted songs...

You know, the McCain-is-old meme is getting old. Ron Paul (born in 1935) is a year older than McCain (born in 1936). Were there any jokes about him being old?

Obama needs to get Tom Petty and use his songs like "Learning to Fly."

It'll be 1992 all over again with Fleetwood Mac.

Yeah. I'm not a big U2 fan and while I love Springsteen, could care less about "The Rising"...

But seriously... "A Change Is Gonna Come." Candidate for best song ever. And perfect for Obama's campaign, if you listen to the lyrics.

I would love to do the music for a McCain entrance.

Something by Lords of Acid would be good.
"They're Coming to Take Me Away Ha Ha" by Napoleon the 13th.
"Closer" by Nine Inch Nails.
Something by Rudy Vallie or some other megaphone crooner.
Something by ThePartyParty. ("Bloody Sunday" as sung by George W. Bush)
Or maybe "Snake Dance of the Old People" by World Entertainment War.
"Relax" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood
"Fark the Creationists" by M.C.Hawking

So many choices...

No, because he's been out of the race for awhile and no one gives a shiat.

But I swear, I'll volunteer for the candidate that walks on stage to "Pussy Control" by Prince.

George W. Bush's campaign song, actually, was "Won't Get Fooled Again." Yeah, that really held up.

Ron Paul didn't regularly have senior moments. (They're not in the Constittion.)

McCain's campaign is a parade of incompetence. I've seen more professional High School productions. They ran a clip today of McCain reading "jokes" off of a piece of paper. It was like the worst stand up comic ever.

I read somewhere a few years ago (it might have been something by P.J. O'Rourke) that a politician shouldn't tell jokes. Most really good jokes - and certainly most topical ones - will be offensive to someone and that will help alienate the politician. Self-deprecation is out too because people might actually believe you.

On the other hand, if you don't show a sense of fun you may end up being seen as boring (e.g. Al Gore), so I guess it's a calculated risk.

FARK! I always mixed 'em up at the time too. After Kurt died, the 90s were a very strange time musically, and then bubblegum pop ruled the world for, well, I went to high school from 1998 to 2002, and those are pretty much the dates on Lou Perlman ruling the world.

I must admit, I kind of like some of the old barbershop quartet music (I've got extremely broad tastes in music), and do like the song "Let Me Call You Sweetheart", but that said, I don't think it's the brightest idea to use music at your campaign events that's at home on the Lawrence Welk Show.

Don't vote for any candidate that plays Springsteen's 'Born in the USA' thinking it's a positive, upbeat, patriotic song. That's farking retarded, if you read or listen to the lyrics. I can't understand the poor logic of the people that have the song-picking job choosing a song just based on one little piece of the lyrics, out of context.
