(Contact Music) Amusing Billy Joel never got why religious groups boycotted "Only the Good Die Young." But he's glad they did, because sales went up: "I remember writing a letter saying, 'Please ban my next record. Thank you very much'"   (contactmusic.com) divider line 22

If only the people in power paid attention to this little fact -instead of giving in to "religious boycotts". Soap for example was successfully boycotted and was probably one of the best comedies ever written in the 70's.

I remember when Fox was a fledgling channel and some show called Married with Children was on it.
My mother read about the show in the newspaper and said that a lot of folks are upset about the content of the show.
So we tuned in to watch it because my mother said if these many people are upset, it has to have something to it.
We were addicted after the first episode we watched.

Soap's a good example. Even the not-so-good episodes (towards the end, especially) were better than most of the other things that were on. Losing Robert Guillaume hurt a lot, though.

She poos strawberries and farts powdered sugar. At least in my mind.

As far as the article goes, he's right. Piss off or pander to the religious right. I guarantee you'll be rich in mo time.

Does The Jesus and Mary Chain's name count?

That's one of those songs that should've been in yesterday's "really bad lyrics" thread.

Really bad.

Didn't it come out later that the production company behind "The Last Temptation of Christ" sent guys out to religious organizations posing as "concerned Christians" telling them about this filthy, sacreligious movie they should boycott?

carmody 2008-07-10 11:54:53 AM
For some reason, this godawful song has been in heavy rotation on the local oldies stations lately. The only time I listen to the radio is in my car, and I can't go anywhere without hearing either this piece of shiat or the bazillionth replay of "Rhiannon" by Fleetwood Mac (which I used to love, but now am beginning to despise, sadly).

Billy Joel sucks.

i'm sure there are other's but those are the first two that jumped into my head.

Vancouver actually. I hate that I have to deal with border guard assholes just to see my favourite band, but I'm willing to put up with it for the Mary Chain.
