"Edison's Medicine" must be Geritol.

Gaboo 2008-07-09 09:22:49 PM
Go ahead and knock them, they can still kick any of those "nu-metal" bands asses. They ACTUALLY PLAY INSTRUMENTS, and do it well I might add. So subby, go have fun at whatever "fest" there is this summer and enjoy a bunch of idiots flailing around to pre-recorded noise coming from a laptop.

stingrza [TotalFark] 2008-07-09 09:34:41 PM
Yes, also, they never broke up. They have been touring and releasing material on their own consistently since the hair metal boom died in the early 90's.

Listening to that video that comes with the link was the most unpleasant musical experience i had in as long as I can remember

I actually got up to lower the volume

/true story

Gaboo:"nu-metal"

Are you a time traveler from 2001?

And can a band be considered a has-been if they had a hit in the last 5 years?

CheddarPants [TotalFark] 2008-07-09 10:49:52 PM
I have to admit, "Into the Now" was a lot better than I expected it would be. I'd go see them if they came to town, but I wouldn't take a road trip to see them.

Gaboo 2008-07-09 10:53:24 PM
AcheronX:Are you a time traveler from 2001?

No, but I will admit I'm not up to speed on all the stupid new genres you kids come up with. In all fairness, Tesla isn't exactly "metal" either.

WhyteRaven74 [TotalFark] 2008-07-09 11:18:51 PM
Tesla isn't a metal band. Also they put on an awesome live show. And they aren't a hair band either.

Saw Tesla at a bike rally earlier this year. Sounded great! Can still belt them out.

reunite? what are you smoking subby? they've been touring fairly regularly for the past few years.

Shrugging Atlas 2008-07-10 12:22:30 AM
Tesla just needs to hang tough, and give it all they got.

bGizzy [TotalFark] 2008-07-10 12:29:27 AM
Tesla was a good band, i'll admit to being a fan in high school. As for them being fat & arthritic, they were in the running for the ugliest band even in their prime.

Whatthefark 2008-07-10 12:35:25 AM
Tesla's a great band. I've seen them live twice. Both great shows. I missed them when they came by in March though.

BobtheFascist 2008-07-10 01:42:15 AM
They aren't metal. They're a rock band.

Nu-metal is not considered metal.

Tesla is not considered metal.

Do you want me to continue or should I just let you reminisce about your glory days in which you blared 'Love Song' from your Fiero and played your 4-string rendition of 'Smoke on the Water' for fat chicks?

/glam/hair/gay metal is not metal
//Dee Snider even admitted it

I heard Tesla's acoustic cover of "War Pigs" on Sirius the other day. One of the worst listening experiences of my life.

Flaming Lips + Peaches = worst cover of "War Pigs" ever.

/Saw it on PBS or some thing one night, nearly hurled my dinner

grim_and_frostbitten,

If Chuck were still alive, his music would be like alien technology to us. I still get choked up hearing "Symbolic" and Control Denied.
Fark, fark, fark, I'm reminded once again he'll never make a song......

Call me strange, but I like tesla and they were great live the last time I saw them. (Mind you, that was around 1988 or so, but still...)

If they play near me, I'd go see them again.

godiluvbeer 2008-07-10 08:01:34 AM
whew...I'm glad the good people of Fark clarified that Tesla =! metal.

good band...just not a good metal band.

Subby was trying too hard for a greenlight but it worked for him so kudos. I know I've done worse. It's just too bad he knows nothing about music and how great Tesla really are.

/Got both Tesla and Death on my ipod right now. It's great hearing Love Song then immediately into Pull the Plug.

Lumber Jack Off:reunite? what are you smoking subby? they've been touring fairly regularly for the past few years.

you're acting as if Tesla are the Rolling Stones and haven't been flying under the radar for 20 years now....

STRYPERSWINE 2008-07-10 11:13:55 AM
They weren't even a hairband (although they did tour with some). They wore regular clothes on stage, never wore makeup, certainly weren't image-oriented. They play good solid regular rock songs.

They can play blues, metal, classical, bluegrass, country, sometimes all in the same song. Frank Hannon is an amazing diverse guitarist who is criminally overlooked.

I saw them on their second reunion show back in 2000 and they put on an incredible show. One of the few bands from that era that is still respected today. No egos, no rock star pretensions, just good music and a good show.

Madbassist1 [TotalFark] 2008-07-10 11:27:12 AM
I like em, but their singer can swing the suck live.

Sorry, I was contractually obligated to post a pic of the Tesla electric car since I usually post Tesla the band pics on the Tesla car stories.

nabernat 2008-07-10 11:46:41 AM
I've been a fan for 20 years. See them everytime they come to town. Never broke up (Tommy left for rehab) and put on an amazing show. They still play their old stuff (if you think it's crap you're deaf) and the new stuff is actually decent. And FAT? Obviously subby hasn't seen Jeff Keith. He's probably 120 soaking wet.

/Love Song - best 80s ballad.

aszure 2008-07-10 11:47:11 AM
C'mon guys, there's a lot worse and lame hair metal bands to pick on than Tesla. Some of their songs were pretty decent, and had very competent musicians to boot.

lpAZ 2008-07-10 12:26:53 PM
Fark you subby!!

...and yeah, get off my lawn!

kblair4 [TotalFark] 2008-07-10 01:04:52 PM
I rocked out to some Tesla while mowing my lawn this past Sunday. Modern Day Cowboy is still their greatest song ever. You can't argue that.
But if you watched the preview in this article, Jeff Keith sounds pretty bad, and looks like he's really straining. He sounds cartoonish almost, like his voice went the opposite way that rock vocalists voices go when they're in their mid-40s. He sounds like the lead singer of Ween on that "Push Th' Little Daisies" song.

I'll check it out when my promo copy arrives.

/not subby
//posted original article though

Heavy metal, hard-core, pop, punk, or thrash, you can call it anything, it don't matter to me. Call it what you want, it's all music to me.
