Are you stoned? I can think of a laudry list of dummers who are better than Rngo. "Luckiest Rock and Roll Drummer" would have been better.

Ever heard of Keith Moon?

AcheronX [TotalFark] 2008-07-07 11:32:39 AM
Chris Pennie is 68? Holy hell, who knew?

Bondidude 2008-07-07 11:37:17 AM
Ringo was one of the WORST drummers in rock history.

There's a long list of drummers who are much more talented than he is.

I agree with luckiest drummer ever, but not best by any stretch of the imagination.

/headline fail

WaltzingMathilda [TotalFark] 2008-07-07 11:39:39 AM
My guess is that some Farkers won't know a trollerific headline if it took a dump on their heads.

/not subby

That being said, everyone knows that the more drums you have in your kit, the better you are at the drums. That's why everyone on Fark knows that Neil Peart is at least 3-4 times better than most drummers.

Happy birthday Neil Peart! You don't look a day over 55!

He managed to inspire an entire generation of drummers, including a great many of the ones you'd push Ringo aside to get an autograph from, to pick up sticks for the first time. If that doesn't make him at the very least one of the greatest drummers of all time, I don't know what does.

/Wasn't fantastically talented, though
//Still could keep a beat

So right. He is very good, very technical, but I get no groove from him. I miss Bonham and Moon.

Mr_Fabulous 2008-07-07 11:59:21 AM
Ringo was a better drummer than he's given credit for. But yeah, the headline is so obviously trollerific that it doesn't really warrant a response.

Any Gavin Harrison fans out there today?

I was kidding. He is good, but I don't get anything from him either. Fark is heavy on the Rush and Peart fellatio but I really don't think the drumming equivalent of jiggling your keys at a baby means Peart is the best ever.

Do dig Bonham and Moon though. That's rock n' roll.

All your favorite drummers suck.

NightOwl2255 2008-07-07 12:25:00 PM
Not sure if you would call them Rock drummers but Buddy Rich and Ed Shaughnessy could blow most drummers off the stage.

that would have been a cool simulpost.

Rolling Stone magazine (who has kissed Beatle ass for 40+ years) ranked him at #55... and that's incredibly generous of them.

ringo-bashing is really dumb. ringo is awesome. he's a superstar. he's a farking beatle. name a beatles song in which keith moon (who i love, who absolutely farking rules) could have improved on ringo? he's tasteful. he didn't try to showboat, ever. and when you're in a band with john, paul, and george, that counts.

you dis ringo, you dis yourself.

the-meter-man 2008-07-07 12:46:54 PM
While not the "greatest rock 'n' roll drummer ever", he certainly was the perfect drummer for the Beatles.

carmody 2008-07-07 12:47:13 PM
People shiat on Ringo all the time. Those people are stupid. Happy birthday, old man!

Clash City Farker 2008-07-07 12:48:01 PM
Best drummer ever? He wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles.

Olympus Mons 2008-07-07 12:50:30 PM
Drummer of one of the best rock bands ever maybe....

He was ok...I like him a lot though. It worked with the Beatles.

I could list my own drummers but... hey what the hey.

Happy B-Day Ringo. You are more than your drumming. Hope you have many more years to enjoy you're good fortune.

Faux Shizzle 2008-07-07 12:50:59 PM
Aw c'mon now. There's no way Meg White is 68.

What?

Always thought funk drummers were the best. Bernard Purdie and David Garabaldi from Tower of Power come to mind.

A few honorable mentions:

Stewart Copeland-the Police
Steve Gadd-Steely Dan
Hate to admit it but that little weiner Lars Ulrich is pretty good too

Please credit stolen lines.

As for all the Ringo hate: you people have no farking idea what you are talking about. He was a great drummer. Like other great drummers -- Moon, Bonham, etc -- Ringo's style and playing contribute to the composition of the song. No he was not a particularly technical or versatile musician -- yet he created some of the most enduring and memorable drum tracks in history. His playing had a singular quality which was part of what made the Beatles so successful.

By the logic you farkers are using here, Chuck Berry is a shiatty guitar player.

Judge the body of the work, not preconceived notions which many of you are just parroting anyway.

It is apparently nothing to what people here give the Beatles.

Go listen to "Tomorrow Never Knows," "Rain," "A Day in the Life," "Come Together," and a few others, and then tell me Ringo wasn't any good. A good drummer also knows when to be tasteful.

Oh man, I don't want to be in a position of defending Lars Ulrich, but I did bring it up.

In the early years he definitely had the chops. Because of his suckiness as a person, that seems to have overshadowed his skills.

As far as the sound of his drums, I blame that more on the recording engineers and producers. Although as obnoxious and pushy as Ulrich is, you would think he would notice and say something.
