Because People in power are Stupid 2008-07-07 01:54:33 AM
Subby is so incredibly stupid. What (s)he meant to post was this link to an actual Primus/Tom Waits song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHHiB9KR9nU (new window)

Not to say that the linked song isn't "a rockin" -it's just the wrong one.

Nothing against Primus, but I actually prefer to Waits on Arsenio clip.

I had no idea that Tom Waits drove a Prius.

I'm sorry, but his gravely voice makes me want to beat my two ex best friends heads in with a ratchet- he's all they listened to- i hate his VOICE!
(Being an Opera singer myself, i find his vocals to be the ANTI voice, as it were)

From your profile: and woefully underlaid.....

I think I see the problem.

I like Waits but some his fans tend to be complete douchenozzles.

I went to an after party after a concert of his recently. Just the party and not the concert.

I was standing by the bar and that had this crowd of just turned 21 something year olds talking about him being the last of the beat generation. And I asked one if they could name there three favorite authors from that time, and he couldn't even mention one. Not even Kerouac.

I agree his work is influenced by that era.

But he was born in 49. And I am positive that when he was 5 years old he was not in coffee house, or on the road, or hanging with Ginsberg and riding that dope train with Borroughs.

/getting old
/cannot stand surface trivial knowledge with ass to back it up.

Your right lets encourage random fact droping without any knowledge of understanding of what we are talking about. Good work theflatline don't let those punks get away with that shiat.

Screaming fat chicks in leather pants = win? ;)

Seriously, if you are a singer then you have to know that you don't attack all songs the same way. Waits' voice is pitch perfect for what he does. Is it an opera voice, no. Would any of your opera singing friends sound worth a darn singing something like Romeo is Bleeding....no.

yes i am an elitest, that is why I cant stand tom waits. He is far to pedestrian for my refined tastes. It is nice to sit in the lap of luxury, or as I call it your mom, and spend my time worrying about the welfare of those less fortunate than I as the grind it out in internet forums and discussions threads.

/please remove your head from your ass before responding, we would all apreciate that

Primus sucks and yet, this video is full of win? How can this be?

PYROY 2008-07-07 10:08:09 AM
I saw him play last week. The show was good but a tad too long at 2 1/2 hours. I was also a bit pissed at the initial ticket cost of $350 per seat, luckily no one was buying them so they brought the cost down to $85, still pretty effin expensive.

Looks Ren and Stimpy style. Kricfalusi(sp?) perhaps? Anyone?

slightlyfarked 2008-07-07 10:35:35 AM
Pyroy, what are you talking about? The tickets were always $85.00.

I saw the sold out show in Knoxville and it was one the best concert experiences I have had. The crowd was great and downright jubilant.

you completely missed the point. I don't give two shiats whether or not you like Tom Waits. I said you must lead a charmed life if you actually worry about getting flamed for not liking him. In other words, if that's something that worries you, you must have nothing else to worry about. Congrats.

I anxiously await your wild overreaction

Tom Waits for no one

I Like Bread 2008-07-07 11:34:34 AM
Now I understand.

On the last Waits thread, some self-important douchebag with too much free time ended up e-mailing me with nonsense because I made fun of his music.

In the spirit of that: Tom Waits fans are suffering from delusions of adequacy.

I understood your point, but this being the internets I am entitled to make outlandish overreactions.

I dont care if people flame me or others, infact it is what makes the internets fun. What I was commenting on is the demi-god like status of tom waits, and the rabidness of his fans. Often in waits threads overzelous fans will pounce on anyone who states that they dislike tom waits, or find him overrated, which he is. The degree or lengths that people go to to defend waits and his craptastic gravel singing is ridiculous, and almost as obnoxious as beatles fans. So i expect people to flame away, and they have a right to do so. They also have a right to defend their favorite over hyped and praised musician. All I was saying is that it happens more then usual in his particular threads.

/you may want to check the batteries in your sarcasm detector by the way
//i would like both tom waits and his butt lover bruce sprinstien to mistake their lube for superglue and be stuck nut to butt for a few weeks, that way we wouldn't have to hear about their stuid tours or music.

For more Tom Waits/Primus goodness, give "Coattails of a Dead Man" a listen.

FutureEmperor420 2008-07-07 01:06:44 PM
Hey again all- I dont like his voice, i said absolutely nothing about weather it was good or bad-it's not bad, it just sounds like sand paper being rubbed against an elderly man's genitals at times- i have heard quite a bit of his work- Alice is good and interesting but again- I don't like his voice, that's all.

Dubya's_Coke_Dealer 2008-07-07 03:00:42 PM
Saw the Jacksonville show last week, pretty good. Some of the people were jerks, but then I think that most anywhere I go. Just a concert, folks, not the Second Coming.

I think if you were not already familiar with his voice, you wouldn't have understood one word. Like listening to someone with say, a strong Scottish accent.

hongrime 2008-07-07 09:37:19 PM
scored a free ticket to see tom at the Alabama Theatre last thursday night. huge fan, show was awesome, i've now seen him play at my 2 favorite venues (Ryman, Alabama).

rothbury, right? what a farkin sick festival. and primus was amazing too. i've never seen him play live but now i'd kill to do it again.

also enjoyed the hell out of the snoop dogg show. looked like all the hippies did too.

Don't listen to Tom Waits. I always think Ron Perlman when I see a pic of him. Even though they don't really look the similar.

Anyway, grew up in the 80's. High School and College in the 90's.

No Tom Waits.

/Plenty of Pixies though.
//Also loved me some Primus.
///Never read Kerouac either.
////That shiat bored me.

That gravel voice can do some magic. Listen to his cover of "Somewhere" from West Side Story, and tell me that's bad singing.

Those were great shows, and DMB rocked their asses off.

I'm glad I finally saw a thread with some other Farkers that were there.

Uh, thus far, no one has flamed you for not liking tom waits. Not a single even mild retort, much less a full on free for all.

Come down off the cross, kungfu jesus, we can use the wood.
