Well..I'm one of those PA bashers but here there were finger printing overseas and they were coming up hits from crimes committed in America. I don't see the PA being an issue on this topic.

/or am I missing something?

GaryPDX:/or am I missing something?

info sharing was part of the PA. This would not have been known had there not been a lot of interagency sharing.

also missed the gasoline I was throwing....

This is why I hate it when people say criminals are stupid.

I grant you that some criminals are in fact stupid, but they make it seem like every criminal is stupid.

Then you find out that the police and the government have their stupid moments also.

So who is stupid here?

And didn't blow anything up while they were.

I thought that was their whole plan.

Ok, now that we got that out of the way, I find this pretty weird, and a little bit suspicious, don't you think?.

mandingueiro 2008-07-06 08:26:15 PM
to take a simplistic view: sandnubian criminals=terrorist.
there are many problems at issue here with fingerprinting foreigners through our database. shouldnt that be reserved for americans only?? Is there a violation of foreign rights or do they not have a government over there? I'm sure if someone took a look into US armed forces they would find many many prior (civilian) criminals.

Pretty much.
1. Arrest and deport foreign nationals due to criminal record.
2. Go to country of said foreign national and fingerprint them.
3. Profit?

Not really. The ones we have to worry about are the ones for whom we have no information. It's not the idiot that got deported because he snorted coke in Jersey we have to worry about - it's the person who has no record anywhere, who saunters in unnoticed, that should be a concern.

The records suggest that potential enemies abroad know a great deal about the United States because many of them have lived here, officials said.

In other news, every single person ever admitted to the United States on a work visa is a potential terrorist!

Sheesh. Yet another "Look! Our tax dollars at work saving scared white people by making them scared!" article.

Yeah, because anything that might in any way vindicate government policy must be propaganda disseminated by the administration.

"It suggests there was some familiarity with Western culture, the United States specifically, and for whatever reason they did not agree with that culture," he said. "Either they became disaffected or put up with it, and then they went overseas."

They came here to study? That's impossible. They hate us because they are poor, illiterate peasants whose only experience with Americans is when great satan destroyed their family's hut with smart bombs. If they actually met American citizens there would be mutual understanding between our peoples.

Errors in matching, though rare, have occurred.

How do they know ?

In a noted 2004 case, Oregon lawyer Brandon Mayfield was erroneously named as a suspect in the Madrid train bombings that killed 191 people.

If 'Brandon Mayfield', although a Muslim, a white man practising law in Oregon, had been 'Mohammed bin Talel', an Arab man farming in Afghanistan, how likely is it that he'd now be enjoying a government apology and a large cheque, as opposed to having been shipped off to God knows where ?

JimmyCarter'sSecondTerm 2008-07-06 08:31:25 PM
Now when we kill a little kid's family we can fingerprint him so that he can't come for revenge when he grows up. War is hell but these people are set on killing Americans. I will not lose any sleep over us turning away little haajis at the border because they could have potentially been a spotter for an IED.

Should we really be surprised by this? The ideological founder of Al Queda studied in America and was inspired to preach jihad by the outrage he felted at the indecency and moral decay he discovered in 1950s small town Middle America. Girls wore skirts, men and women danced together, it was too much for the young muslim male to handle. It's something to consider as the Bush administration has drastically boosted the number of student visas for places like Saudi Arabia

Fail.

They're planning on incorporating a biometric ID here in the US. The only question is whether it will be forced or requested. Start telling people that government is farking up and possibly false flagging non-terrorists while the real ones slip through cracks and see what happens. "Verichip please."

I think the point is that foreign nationals (I think -- I didn't see anything about citizens) who have committed crimes and are also disaffected with the US have been leaving the country and joining terrorist groups.

The other point is that there is a pretty huge payoff to law enforcement agencies sharing data, which unfortunately has been a long time coming.

Considering what happened in the Brandon Mayfield case, i am VERY sceptical of this. Sounds like they got a vague match and claimed that must have been him.

Since they are in Afghanistan, I would say that they have a hash collision in their software.

They need more proof than just fingerprints since fingerprints are matched on partial points, not full pattern matches.

My gut feeling is that this is more FUD in the war on terra.

I'll give that a 4 out of 10. Really not a bad troll, but perhaps a bit over the top.

FTFA: A recent inspector general report found the FBI fingerprint matching to be generally accurate.

WTF does generally accurate mean? And how on earth would anyone go about proving a specific false-positive case?
