The Bush Administration is already doing so much to help the Obama campaign. I guess this is a natural next step.

And just to get the thread started - fark all of you who take pride in being completely incapable learning science. You stupid farks are the reason we are in a gas crisis right now.

now hold on... I don't think that comparrisions fair. He wasn't an enabler like Yoo was, he was just kinda of a dope. He's not a Yoo, more of a Brownie

Punish the stupid.

oh I agree... still, the question of "evil or incompetent" comes up far too much in this administration. If Obama wanted to nab a good Bush enviro-defector, he'd pick up Rick Piltz

It's generally considered acceptable to leave out the preposition in this kind of case.

"You look like an idiot doing hurdles."
"I feel sick riding the roller coaster."

I don't know if it's technically correct, but it's done so much that it might as well be.

You sure about that? It appears as though he was denounced while working for the Bush administration, and will probably get many accolades for leaving and joing the Obama camp (at a politically expedient time, mind you). It does seem to affirm the position of the OP's "strawman".

The Bush administration has been helping Osama for seven years, and they haven't needed to resign to do it.

Let's be fair. They wrote that before they knew he was going to work for Obama so their opinion has surely changed by now.

Also, this is further proof that Obama is more of the same just like McCain is. Enjoy your four more years of suckitude America. You deserve it.

kerpal32 2008-07-06 10:12:04 PM
Umm. Correction

High-ranking Bush official EPA official resigns to help Obama.

In 2006 he was policy adviser to the assistant administrator of EPA's Office of Air and Radiation

In 2007 he was made Associate Deputy Administrator.

Director positions are by political appointment, but calling him a "high ranking Bush official" is a real stretch. A position comes open, you appoint the candidate you choose for the job.

It sounds as if he wants to continue in his role and work under the next administration, and feels Obama is the best choice.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/06/25/ap/tech/main4210689.shtml (pops)
...Burnett, a policy adviser at EPA who returned when Johnson appointed him associate deputy administrator, said he came back "to work through those challenges. We made as much progress as this administration wanted and when it became clear to me that no more progress could be made I decided it was time for me to move on," Burnett said. "The choice this administration has made is to leave those challenges to the next."...

You realize there are only 6 months left in this administration. This guy is just trying to make sure he keeps a nice cushy .gov job by switching to the (possible) other team.

Please indicate how this article, in particular (since you said 'this') is "proof" of what you claim.

The fact that this guy voluntarily decides, of his own free will, to donate money to and campaign for a candidate, as can any given citizen of the nation, proves your assertion HOW, exactly?

Please tell me--I'm breathless with anticipation.

I think I finally figured out why so many of Fark "Independants" hate Obama.

It's kinda like the kid in school who thought he knew everthing and he'd try to nitpick everything the teacher said as proof the he knew more than her. And everytime she smacked him down he would move on to something else to nitpick over.

In short it boils down to "hey...that guy thinks he's smart and talks like he knows everything. Well he's not smarter than me! Ill show him!"

Prospero424 [TotalFark] 2008-07-06 11:13:12 PM
Here's a Washington Post article detailing the circumstances of this guy's resignation.

He was the one who sent that email to the White House that they literally refuse to read because it would obligate them to take action.

FTAILTA: "White House officials last December sought to stop the Environmental Protection Agency from submitting a proposed rule that would limit greenhouse-gas emissions on the grounds they pose a threat to public welfare, agency sources said yesterday. And upon learning that EPA had hit the "send" button just minutes earlier, the White House called again to demand that the e-mail be recalled.

The EPA official who forwarded the e-mail, Associate Deputy Administrator Jason Burnett, refused..."

"'In early December, I sent an e-mail with the formal finding that action must be taken to address the risk of climate change,' adding that he resigned his political appointment because the agency had been stymied in its efforts to respond to the Supreme Court. 'The White House made it clear they did not want to address the ramifications of that finding and have decided to leave the challenge to the next administration.'"

"One EPA official said agency staff had encountered fierce opposition from Bush appointees on several of these sections. "They don't even want us to talk about alternatives," the official said, adding that Johnson and his top aides have been in an "intense negotiation" with White House officials on how much to alter the rulemaking, with Johnson working to resist major changes."

"'The White House has found EPA's draft finding to be radioactive in three key areas,' said S. William Becker, executive director of the National Association of Clean Air Agencies. 'It validates the approval of California's waiver to regulate greenhouse gases from motor vehicles. It demonstrates that the Transportation Department's proposed fuel economy standards fall far short of what is technologically feasible and cost-effective. And it makes a strong case supporting how the existing Clean Air Act can be used to regulate greenhouse gases.'"

Basically, this guy was one of the current group of appointees who were hand-picked by the White House because they thought they could and would sabotage attempts to further regulate greenhouse gas emissions behind the scenes at the EPA. Once the Supreme Court made it clear that the EPA had to take action, these guys had no choice but to write recommendations that the White House would be required follow in executing the Clean Air Act. The only alternative to these guys was to contend in their recommendations that rising greenhouse gas levels pose no public health threat in the long run. And not even Bush officials, much to the chagrin of the far right, can make that assertion with a straight face anymore.

So the White House, rather than accept the recommendations from their own EPA, have decided that they're not going to open any documents regarding this issue from the EPA unless they say what they want to hear.

Now, how do they know what the documents they supposedly haven't opened or read say?

Yeah... And you wonder why this guy jumped ship.

Prospero424 [TotalFark] 2008-07-06 11:16:17 PM
"I think that most people who have studied the Clean Air Act recognize the challenges posed by the Supreme Court case, but the nation is best served by confronting those challenges, not trying to delay the inevitable," Burnett said in an interview Wednesday.

And that really is the totality of the Bush administration's current policy on greenhouse gas emissions and climate change: delay, delay, delay, delay, delay.

Pass the buck. Sound familiar?

John McCain needs your help, he wants an attack advisor to go after Obama. By pointing out these similarities as you did above, you make a great addition to the team.
