People register 4-wheelers here and drive them around town.

I've seen a couple of three-wheel sport bikes around town lately, with two wheels in the front. Both of them were ridden by nerdy-looking fat dudes who mistakenly purchased them thinking they'd get poon with them. One is often parked in front of a Starbucks where the guy tries to mack on any woman walking through with a latte.

bicycles are great.

Asshat "entitlement" riders obeying no law but their own are not.

// I walk, my carbon footprints even smaller than yours. And I don't cut off cars every block to get where I'm going, then act like I'm the moral one.

Tax bicycles, require tags. Traffic is traffic.

What would be more effective is just education for everyone about the role of bicycles. I got yelled at by a driving instructor to "get on the sidewalk" last week on my commute home, then watched him fail to pull over for a lit-up ambulance half a block later.

A bunch of ad time spent on talking about how bicycles should act and how they should be treated would do much better than tagging them.

My current commuting ire is wrong-way cyclists, followed closely by sidewalk cyclists. I've decided to just start playing chicken with them until they get out of my way as reason has a decades-long history of not working with them.

I have a 2005 Kawasaki Mule and next week I will have the title so I can register it as street legal. All that is required is the title, a slow moving triangle and a verification that it goes under 25 miles per hour. I use it to run around town and to ride to work. There has been complaints about kids on 4-wheelers tearing up stuff and speeding so until I get the tags on it I have to park it. I think it is a good idea to let people ride utility vehicles, and I do not understand why a person would complain because these are on the street. they need to stfu and realize a 25 MPH Mule is NOT a dang 4-wheeler.

SpeshilEdjukashin:I don't understand how a vehicle with a top speed of 17mph is street legal.

How does one respond to a statement such as this. The article clearly explains what it takes to be street legal. I guess the short answer is "it's street legal when it meets the rules of being street legal". Apparently going over 17 mph isn't one of the constraints.

/Doubt that makes it easier for you to understand.

You know - I'm not totally opposed to this as long as the tags are fairly cheap. I see a lot of riders who quite honestly don't understand what they are doing. Plus it makes a statement that bikes are, indeed, vehicles that have a right to the road. That said, I'd like to not have to tag each bike (have 4) individually since I only ride one at a time (not opposed to this for cars either).

Wow, talk about a self righteous asshat. Who the fark assigned you to be in charge of teaching everyone else how to ride a farking bicycle?

Bicycles weigh less than 20 lbs. Cars weigh 2500-3000 lbs and pickup trucks weigh 3000-5000 lbs. The laws of physics dictate that the guy on the bicycle cannot command right of way without significant risk. Since most drivers out there haven't touched a bicycle since 5th grade, don't expect them to be all current on bicycle rules of the road. Just accept the fact that you're a secondary user of the roads and concede right of way to the primary users of the roads (anyone in a vehicle bigger than your bicycle).

When I'm walking or riding my bicycle, I fully expect every single vehicle to not see me, and I act accordingly. Therefore I have no problems dealing with vehicular traffic, I just concede right of way to all of them. When I'm driving my pickup truck, I tend to ignore the hapless critters on foot and on bicycles. They aren't a concern of mine.

It's a Can-Am Spyder, they're made by Bombardier. The way I heard them first described was a snowmobile with wheels.

We kick this around at work, or used to, before our resident cyclenistas all quit.

Basically it went like this:

Cyclenista: Damn I got cut off in traffic again, asshat commuter drivers and their carbon footprints

Me: Were you the guy I saw flying through 6 red lights on the way down Pike the wrong way on a one way then cutting a row of pedestrians off as you cut the curve at 25 mph?

Cyclenista: You'd ride like that too if you'd been doored as much or cut off as much as I have. F'in SUV suburban F's. In fact why dont you ride, you could use to lose a few lbs.

Me: I rode for 20 yrs til my knees quit letting me. Now I walk. When I did ride, I damn sure didn't cut people off then whine it was their fault either.

On and on it went. Great guys individually, but as a group, cyclenistas are just whining babies with adrenaline highs and a very over developed sense of entitlement.

the same amount of people who know how to properly operate a bicycle is around the same as the amount of people who know how to properly operate a car. probably 2% of the population, and licenses don't make a difference because they are too easy to get.

Many states spell it out in the drivers manual- the book you have to read in order to pass the written test for the license (and also happens to be where the rules of the road are printed). Usually bicycles are treated the same as cars under the law. That means you use the street and obey the same traffic signs, signals, and laws. That also means that cars must yield to them just as with any other vehicle, the only difference being that you are allowed to pass bikes in no passing zones due to the speed differential (but it must be SAFE to do so). If you've passed a driving test, you've read the laws and how they apply to bikes.

Yes, I get annoyed when somebody is riding a bike on a street where bikes are clearly not intended nor is it safe. There's a few of those near here- I came up on a cyclist who was climbing a hill on a curvy road, and he was maybe doing 3mph. I still gave him plenty of room and trolled along behind him until it was safe to pass. He might not have been real bright to ride there, but that's no reason to damn near kill him (or let somebody else try to do it).

They should make an iPhone-shaped bicycle seat. That way, the rider can listen to his favorite Kate Voegele track while having the phone crammed up his ass at the same time. It's not fair they should have to trade off just because they're riding a bike. You should be able to have that phone up your ass at all times.

Get some of those noise-canceling earbuds and turn the volume up way high, too. That way, I can claim you never heard my car horn after you become my new hood ornament.

Actually, I have some stipulations for that. I get to duck out of the bike lane if it has death grates, double parked vehicles, open doors, animals, joggers, poorly maintained asphalt, or miscellaneous debris in it.

You know, like a car would out of their lane.
