meh. This lady added to her own stress. Usually if a plane is late and there is a connecting flight, if you ask them, they will call ahead and tell them you're going to be late.

Never travel with anyone under the age of 15.

I'd like to know what sort of special drug cocktail it was which caused submitter to label the lady in that story's image as "pretty".

So what is Subby's problem with this? White people aren't allowed to voice their problems/complaints?

Kevin5280 2008-07-06 03:11:14 PM
"I survived that day, so I know I can survive anything."

Actually, considering the way you handled this minor situation, if anything major happens, you and your family are toast.

We packed and headed to the airport by flashlight.

Were the headlights on your car out, too?

bikerdiva [TotalFark] 2008-07-06 03:39:44 PM
Jebus lady, that wasn't survival, that was modern travel.

No, but expect to be made fun of when your problems sound like a child whining for his favorite toy.

oh, forgot to say, I'm not subby.

Stop flying US airlines. Maybe they will get their crap together.

Probably not though.

Sounds like my sister in law.

Vangor [TotalFark] 2008-07-06 03:53:43 PM
Meh. It's rough, but that is a rather relative term. My ability to sympathize with her is due simply to my own pettiness at my little problems. Of course, my ability to tell her to relax on the melodrama because that is not survival but you stressing over the temporary grounding of marvels of transportation is due to my own pettiness altogether.

joepac1 2008-07-06 03:54:35 PM
I'm going to knock on wood, but I am the only one who has never had a problem with an airline? Security has always been cordial to me, and the same goes for flight attendants and such. The closest I came to a big problem was almost missing a connecting flight because of a crappy travel agent. Although I imagine I've just been lucky. Oh well.

mcwebe0 [TotalFark] 2008-07-06 03:54:44 PM
hyperflame:No, but expect to be made fun of when your problems sound like a child whining for his favorite toy.

Especially when your complaint includes this nonsense:

"I survived that day, so I know I can survive anything."

You know, that's what Paris Hilton told Dave Letterman that she learned from her time in prison. If she can survive however many days in cushy, baby jail, she can survive anything.

Jack me the fark off, biatch!
You don't seem to have a problem squeezing those ugly little monsters from your worn out flap, and the dad wasn't there waiting with you.

This is what happens when you let dumb white women out of the kitchen.

blueviking 2008-07-06 03:56:23 PM
Definitely a bad day by the easy conditions we live in here in the States. I wouldn't deem that worthy of a story nor would I utter "I can survive anything" after a series of, while still frustrating, small incidents like that.

smells_like_meat [TotalFark] 2008-07-06 03:56:44 PM

I like the disclaimer in the article saying that "we know the last article seems petty and stupid to most people and we know this. Here is another of the same but stop emailing us."

bunner [TotalFark] 2008-07-06 03:59:34 PM
That's a pretty crap day.

She didn't scale Kilimanjaro and that's fine because she wasn't trying to, she wasn't raised to and she's your basic, top of the food chain, white mom.

There's not shame in that. She went through the ringer from several things , many of which were the fault of people who had no idea as to the present state of their service web or who was doing what, when.

She got searched like a criminal, hassled, was saddled with her kids who sure as hell weren't up for that and she's soft and not up for dealing with major inconvenience. She's not a bad person, she's just some white chick with kids trying to get her family home.

The same people smirking at her as a whiny biatch would be screaming the loudest if they had a day like that.

So is she some huge failure? No. Does she whine a bit too much? Most likely...

Could she "survive anything"? She can barely think past what happens if the concierge goes on a smoke break.

But that's America in the middle class, these days.

Entitled, whiny and clueless about survival.

The service infrastructure is a mess of incompetence, greed and apathy. the people who have lived with a pillow under their ass forever can have a difficult time of it.

But give her credit.

She kept going. No major piss fit, no heavy dramatics, no throwing her hands in the air.

She ain't no hero but at least she got her kids home.

How crappy is life supposed to be to validate suffering slings and arrows?

Don't most of the people here who view those as having true hardships and struggles as being "losers"?

The fail is not with this woman or even the whole of the service industry. It's with the hypocrisy of American culture that states that the poor should be assisted, the middle class should not be eradicated and the rich are entitled, and yet excoriates each, evenly, when the lifestyles we try to build for ourselves are kicked around by fate, happenstance and thoughtless workers in the industries that help create that lifestyle.

NedwinHLongfellow 2008-07-06 04:00:37 PM
I honestly tried to read the article, but all I got was "blah blah blah whine whine whine". Maybe my internet's busted all up.

noahad 2008-07-06 04:03:35 PM
I'd say this was an air-travel nightmare on par with say tens of thousands of others, and I can't help but feel that a little extra preparation could have made a big difference. Gone are the days when the airline goes out of their way to help you. Complaining about the room service prices and about getting searched "every time we re-entered security!1!1" just makes her sound naive.

Party-sized bucket of flan 2008-07-06 04:04:25 PM
It only would've been a bad day if somebody dosed her kids with crystal meth. Man up, sally!

Wow, "I got delayed for almost 2 days in an airport, while I had money for a 38 dollar breakfast of room service cheerios."

Here's an idea, go buy yourself a farking hotel room and a taxi then. I'm sure you have the money if you're wasting 38 dollars on farking cereal and toast.

bunner:

She kept going. No major piss fit, no heavy dramatics, no throwing her hands in the air.

I sincerely doubt that. I'll bet that was the only thing she was doing the whole farking time. Just because she wrote that she kept it together doesn't mean shiat.

Barbecue Bob 2008-07-06 04:11:35 PM
Yeah, that day at the airport must have been far harder than... say... giving birth three times.

The Angry Hand of God 2008-07-06 04:12:39 PM
Really? That is the worst day ever? I've had days that are worse than that from just sitting on my testicles.

Lemon Tart 2008-07-06 04:17:16 PM
Wow, and I thought *I* had survived some tough stuff in the past (suicide of a sibling, mom in a coma, almost dying in a car accident a few years ago)... guess I should have read this story first! If this is the worst "survival" scenario a person ever has to face, they have got to be one of the most blessed people on earth.

Sarsin 2008-07-06 04:19:37 PM
As an experienced traveler, I'll tell her where she failed.

At the point where she was denied a hotel and ran out of diapers, the thought should have been this: "Gosh, they have canceled a lot of flights which means a lot of people are going to be trying to fly standby for the remaining ones that actually get out. There are 4 of us, which lowers are chances of scoring standby seats."

At that point, I would have rented a car and drove. Norfolk is about a 6 and a half hour drive. That's a long drive, I know, but then your ordeal is done in 7 hours instead of 2 freakin' miserable days at the hands of the airlines.

/yes I've done this before

Scott77 2008-07-06 04:27:28 PM
People have no concept of how good they have it and how things really aren't as bad as they seem at the moment.

I remember answering a 911 call (in NJ) shortly after Hurricane Katrina; it was some whiny fool complaining that his power was out. For the past five minutes.

I told him not to call 911 for that again, and when the power comes back on to turn on the TV to see people really suffering due to a lack of power.

It was that call that made me decide to take off a month and drive to Mississippi to help people who really needed it, not some whiny rich bastard who had no air conditioning for five minutes.

/not bitter
//actually am bitter
///very bitter

DiamondSmasher 2008-07-06 04:29:07 PM
Waht's with all the "white" stuff?
You've only seen white women with entitlement attitudes?
I don't get the racial self deprecation fad among whites recently in this culture.
Comes from television, I guess, like most such nonsense.

Begoggle 2008-07-06 04:30:55 PM
"My kids (ages 2, 5, 8)"

I believe I've found the source of your problems.
Don't want such problems? Don't have 3 little kids.

t3knomanser 2008-07-06 04:32:00 PM
It's the "I can survive anything" bull that makes it so offensive, I think. That's not that bad a day as things go. It seems to me that a great deal of the hassle could have been avoided if she had just bought travel insurance.

There are people that, when faced with even a minor crisis, multiply the problem through their reaction. This woman is one of those people.

girljen 2008-07-06 04:32:25 PM

I was going to try to say something about how she couldn't drive because she doesn't have her car seats with her...but then I did some research and found out that some car rental agencies actually do rent car seats.

So, you win one (1) hour of free internet.

/The more you know
