(Denver Post) Stupid Local Denver caterers unwilling to participate in Democratic National Convention because of stringent rules on what delegates will be eating, down to the color of the food. Damn Democrats are always so obsessed with color   (denverpost.com) divider line 44

Negotiations over where to locate demonstrators remain unsettled with members of the national news media concerned about proposals to locate the demonstrators - with their loud gatherings - next to the media tent.

How about we put the delegates and candidates behind a barbed wire fence surrounded by armed guards, in their own little free speech zone, and let the rest of the country roam free?

I wish voting were enabled here.

And then there is the food: A 28-page contract requested that caterers provide food in "at least three of the following five colors: red, green, yellow, blue/purple and white." Garnishes could not be counted toward the colors. No fried foods would be allowed. Organic and locally grown foods were mandated, and each plate had to be 50 percent fruits and vegetables. As a result, caterers are shying away.

The members of Van Halen stand in awe of the real pros.

Awesome suggestion, ZAZ.

The $100,000/mo rent on office space that is twice as big as is needed, and $50,000/mo rent on FURNITURE have me rethinking the intelligence of voting Dem this year. Sigh.

If only McCain weren't such an idiot about medical marijuana...and a few other things.

Wellllll....regarding "food color"...

Somewhere between 6 and 24 hours, let me tell you about "food color." Seems, on source authority, that it's all brown on the backside. Brown, I tell you, shiat-symbol of the ridiculous color-coded specifications and "non-fried foods" specifications of an event-gone-haywire.

Duhhyyauuhhh....

Glad I'm not a delegate, then. I would be sneaking off in the middle of the convention to go eat Chipotle or something. Fark rules for what people can and can't eat.

Wait, so the DNC shouldn't be free to purchase what it wants?

Maybe you'd prefer that when someone caters an event, all kinds of food must be represented so as to not hurt anyone's pweshus widdle feewings, you liberal cock.

Tacos have lots of colors.

See how simple that was?

KaponoFor3 [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-07-06 12:53:22 PM
Some of the Democratic missteps started almost immediately after planning for the event began. The Democratic National Campaign Committee turned down a chance to get cheap office space and decided to rent top-quality offices in downtown Denver at $100,000 a month, only to need less than half the space, which it then filled with rental furniture at $50,000 a month

Is this how a Democratic President and Congress would run the country economically? Cause it certainly doesn't bode well.

given that they were complaining about being forced to eat vegetables and a lack of options for greasy fast food that comment seems hilariously nonsensical. Plus, who actually goes out of there way to call people liberals as an insult? Jackasses, that's who.

It's a simple matter of a private party having the freedom to what it wants. Of course, Canadazis know precious little about that, so I'll give you a pass.

Watching the DNC's convention implode is even more fun than watching Doctor Clinton's campaign implode.

Sigh another November when I'll be voting against instead of for the candidate for POTUS.

Are we SURE that the Democrats aren't spending outrageously in order to win a $300M inheritance from a great-uncle? Will they rent the Yankees for a 3 inning game soon?

I'm sure tht if someone combed the eleventy-billion pages of reports from the Obama campaign or the DNC, you'd find all sorts of odd spending.

An even better idea would be to have Hillary invest the convention money on cattle futures. Just think of all the money she could make for the party and convention!

Remove all Republicans:That's the party. Obama is different from them. That's why he's for change. If he were in charge, none of these kind of nonsense would be allowed.

right, because he's not, you know, just a politician, willing to say anything to get your vote of anything. this guy is the messi- er, real deal. right?

At last count, plans to renovate the inside of the Pepsi Center for the Democrats are $6 million over budget,

Why don't they just tax the convention goers? That's what they'll do to the rest of America once they're elected.

Planterz 2008-07-06 03:41:13 PM
They should do what Republicans do - buy every kind of food that's known to man, eat 1/8 of it, throw the rest out, and make our children pay the bill.

Nina_Hartley's_Ass 2008-07-06 03:58:13 PM
Yeah, that food thing is pretty silly.

I wonder how much of this could have been avoided if Hillary had ended her campaign in a more timely manner.

Critics on the record in the article were two caterers, a newspaper editor complaining that his people won't have enough rooms('cause you know we'll all be starved for more convention coverage), and independent councilman Charlie Brown. Anybody got more info on him?

carmody 2008-07-06 04:00:12 PM
subby is apparently unaware of how the GOP has heckled the Dems before based on the color of decor at their conventions (Dukakis, pastels, 1988). The conservatives went on and on about "pastel patriotism" for months.

Nina_Hartley's_Ass:Yeah, that food thing is pretty silly.

Well, I think it's pretty much just shorthand for "we want a variety of food including (horrors!) vegetables." They want to come off as healthy.

Before I read TFA I was expecting that they had asked for red white and blue food, or something.

Back in my home ec classes in school, we were taught that for a healthy box lunch, the easiest thing to do is just be sure the thing was colorful. When you don't use food coloring or anything obviously fake like that, it means... put vegetables and fruit in it.

The pugs are biatching about the menu requests at the Democratic convention.

The menu requests.

This is apparently a major national issue to conservatives.

"Your party lied to get us into war plunged this country into enormous debt and economic disaster." "Oh yeah, well you guys demanded three colors of food at your convention!"

I guess the best argument for McCain is all his food is going to be put in a blender and drank through a straw anyway.

Falcc 2008-07-06 05:39:36 PM
So does this get payed for via donations to the DNC or do the richer members spring for it? All my donations are going to Obama so it's no big deal for me, but I imagine this would irk people if they tried to help the party of their choice win and it was spent on catering. As for the type of food served, that's their choice, but there's a lot of cost flying around and it's relevent to my interests how they're paying.
