Didn't she do that Lord of the Rings song too?

She's getting a lot of work for a has-been.

I'm glad to see that others have piped in. I don't have any of her newer stuff, but one of my favorite CD's is "Diva".

She's a hack. She ripped off that "Sweet Dreams" song from Marilyn Manson.

Sweet Dreams came out when Marilyn Manson was 14. You and submitard belong in the same boat - on a long trip to somewhere else.

I cant think of one song that I like by Annie Lennox, but she's unquestionably a brilliant singer and songwriter.

Submitter is a complete retard. Who would you rather they seek out? Annie is not necessarily my cup of tea, since I am a metalhead, but she has a wonderful voice and is obviously a talent.

However, Farkomatic, not only can you not detect sarcasm very well (I think even the most retarded music fan would know that Lennox did not rip off Manson), but if you cannot even think of one song, how do you know she is brilliant? If you cannot think of even one song, how could you give an example of her brilliance?

blueviking 2008-07-06 12:39:23 PM
Wow, Raging Fark. I like it.

I hope Annie does well with the song, now, if the next Bond movie could only be another hit, then we've got something. It was kind of weird when they chose Chris Cornell to sing for Casino Royale.

Oh, good ole never was Annie Lennox.

Just give up on the James Bond themes, mmmkay? They aren't going to be hit songs for you anymore. Especially not one that has to rhyme something with Solace, for Gods sakes.

Her music doesn't do a thing for me - but unlike most people on fark, that doesn't mean I think it's bad. For example, "Walking on Broken Glass" is put together very well and she shows off an incredible range. But I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it.

I'll admit I might have got taken by the sarcasm, but in my defense, this is the site where people seriously claim Meg White is a better drummer than Niel Peart or Slash is a better guitar player than Eddie Van Halen - it's hard to weed through the crap sometimes. So, if it was sarcasm, this is my mea culpa - and I should learn to keep quiet when music snobs (I'm looking at you smitty) make absurd statements like Annie Lennox being a has-been. Even people that don't care for her music can see she's a heavyweight in the industry who will stay relevant for a long time.

Oh yeah....and I'll add insult to injury - I think she did knock it out of the park when she did her thing on the American Idol gives back program - it was a mind-blowing performance in my opinion.

Saw Annie Lennox, with Dave Stewart on guitar, back in the 80's out in Berkeley, CA. They opened up for Huey Lewis and the News. Must admit her and the band were a bit underwhelming. Maybe they just had a bad day.

Ummm.. who cares who sings the opening credit song? It is always the worst part of a James Bond movie.

These days, its just a bunch of CGI for two minutes with little insight as to what the movie plot is about, while I wait for the dang show to start. You then take an act like Chris Cornell or Sheryl Crow, throw them out of their element, and have them sing overtop of an orchestra.

Visually, yes, some interesting stuff. Not as interesting and fascinating as the scene before with Bond achieving his 00 status... that was far more suspenseful and action packed. Sure, in some visual artsy way, it is impressive, but I came for the action, Bond babes, and cocky one liners. Not an Alice In Wonderland moment.

Cornell's singing? No. Not impressive.

I think I just don't like the inclusion of two very different musical styles. A backing orchestra didn't help Metallica's career, and there are very few artists besides a Barry Manilow or Tony Bennett that can pull off working with an orchestra.

I think Annie can pull it off though. She's done similar stuff on some of her more recent CDs. That being said, more than likely I'll just be hitting "next chapter" on the remote.
