Maybe you could transport it in another vehicle, a vehicle that picks up things, and transports them!.

I have to admit, I had never heard of this before, and would have never considered it possible.

I had no idea this could happen. In my mind, snowmobile + unfrozen lake = sharp sudden stop, sink.

Still seems dumb. Doesn't the snowmobile get wrecked?

I don't see a problem he's just acting like most a$$hats on a PWC.

You should see him skim under the bridge in downtown wolfeboro, it is quite a site to behold.

There were too many other boats out there this weekend, he probably hit some big rollers that swamped his skis.

Wild Rose, WI has a sanctioned race almost every year. I went to it once but it gets boring quick. The street party after is the fun part.

What keeps the oil and gas out of the water when your snowmobile sinks?

Nothing, which is just another reason to not do it. The fines are pretty severe if you sink and pollute the lake.

keithjg 2008-07-05 10:47:01 PM
Roybatty,

The same thing that keeps them in your snowmobile above the water-

Each boat gas dock on winni probably spills 10 snowmobiles worth of gas in the lake every day.

tangential to this, did anybody see the snowmobile that was on Pass Time? it did its run in like 12 seconds or something. Crazy, yet cool.

I saw a lake named Winnipesaukee and that a snowmobiler was speeding on said lake; I assumed it was probably in Wisconsin. I was very surprised to see that it wasn't. At least we've got that going for us...for now.

My grandparents have a place on Winnipesaukee, and I've been snowmobiling on the frozen lake in winter, so I'm really getting a kick out these replies...

Hahahaha...I thought you were just giving him a stupid dumbass name because he was a stupid dumbass. But that's really his stupid dumbass name.

The look on his face when he looks backwards as his machine disappears into the depths is priceless.

You have to ride as fast as they will go or they will sink.

By where I grew up (shout out to the big town of Webster, WI) they've had water cross events for quite a long time. linky!!!(new window). Not too far away they used to have the winter water cross championship as well. That one was done over a channel that didn't freeze during the winter. When the snowmobiles sunk, they had divers and a special salvage pontoon to go pick the sled up. Most of these machines were set up for this type of activity, and were modified so the engines could be drained and filled back up with oil in a matter of minutes. It was kind of fun to watch, but the summer one always had more t&a.

ahhh The Idiot Tax, the Darwin Award's underachieving little brother. For those who just can't quite reach the levels of idiocy of Darwin Award winners.

That guy is now out a couple grand at least for the Snowmobile and then all his legal fees. I'm gonna have to say it would have been a whole lot cheaper to rent a jet ski for the day.

heypete 2008-07-06 12:33:30 AM
I went to high school in Wolfeboro. Nice little town, but nothing to do there during the winter. Some days I miss Lake Winnipesaukee.

/varsity sailing was fun.

Amphibimining:I had no idea this could happen. In my mind, snowmobile + unfrozen lake = sharp sudden stop, sink.

Water, hit at high speed, is *hard*. Sometimes fatally hard.

So if you have a light enough tracked vehicle with the tracks running fast enough, the tracks will stay above water, and the rest is just waterski-ing.

Didn't believe it either until some of my friends told me about doing it.

Tmack 2008-07-06 01:17:34 AM
Meh, took me a few to realize it was not the same Lake Winne I was thinking of... was confuzed why someone in Ga would have a snowmobile, let alone try to skim it on the over sized fish pond they call a lake. Was thinking the Himalaya threw one of its carts and skipped it across the lake or sumfin..

Get Lost 2008-07-06 01:18:37 AM
It's a recreation lake and the guy was recreating.
Heavy boat traffic is a term for,,,,Cops pick the easiest guy to bust, for the most dollars collected in the fine.
