Maybe you should read a ways down in this article^, and see what has gone on in Houston and Minnesota, before you get smug about that.

Xaxor:Well, it didn't happen in America, so who cares?

This happens in California schools, there's been stories about it every year for about the last 10.

*sniff*

I finally snagged some people with their sarcasm-meters turned far too low. I feel so loved.

World Net Daily? Really? Do you have any articles from an actual news source?

TFA: Educating children in the beliefs of different faith is part of the diversity curriculum on the basis that knowledge is essential to understanding.

While I agree with the sentiment, the course-work seems entirely... lame.

You can learn how people practice their faith without practicing it yourself. Like borg said, CA schools get busted for this crap all the time, taking PC education above and beyond what is necessary (and legal in the US) for teaching diversity.

Deputy Headmaster Keith Plant said the teacher has given her version of the incident but he declined to elaborate.

I've known some 11-12 year old kids and I'd really like to hear the teacher's version of events before I get too outraged.

It would be a really big step of progress if we stop teaching religion and start teaching math and physics.

This story originates with the Daily Fail. Fox is obviously thrilled to pass the story along, but it's quite likely to be fiction.

Why would you care if others are taught atheism? Are you an evangelical atheist? Do you wish to spread the Word of belief in nothing?

Not surprised this happened in the UK. Too lazy to google it but last year Scotland banned non-Muslims from eating lunch at work in hospitals during Ramadan since a lot of Muslims work in healthcare.

That's because no one really knows anything for sure about agnosticism, and atheism doesn't exist.

Dear England,

Feel free to keep that kind of crap over there. Granted, we may have had our share of problems in the past, and we haven't always agreed on everything (for example, spotted dick is something we've been known to pass on), but this is one thing that I personally won't tolerate. Bowing down to extremists of any kind of weak, and allowing that kind of shiat to go down only strengthens them. So, I kindly ask that you keep overly liberal nonsense on the other side of the Atlantic, and we will in return stop airing anything that has Paris Hilton.

Regards,
Roxtar

""But if Muslims were asked to go to church on Sunday and take Holy Communion, there would be war," the grandfather of one of the students said."

I'm generally not racist or anything, but I'd wager he'd be right on the money if said situation ever occurred.

/Muhammad, in my cartoon?

thelordofcheese 2008-07-05 11:26:34 PM
"But if Muslims were asked to go to church on Sunday and take Holy Communion, there would be war," said some idiot who didn't realize most schools aren't in session during the weekends and that it was a religous studies class.

He had this to say:
"I am not racist, I've been friendly with an Indian for 30 years. I've also been to a Muslim wedding where it was explained to me that alcohol would not be served and I respected that. (...)"
missing the point that if you have to point it out, you likely are and just covering it up so as not to alienate yourself.

/you know if you object to certain curriculum you can have your children abstain
//by giving the school written communication conveying that request

How much time does it take? "Some believe there is no God and some aren't sure enough to commit to belief or disbelief in a God."

Wait, wait... the die-hard fark athiest army has been shouting from the rooftops for years that "atheism is not a religion" but you think it should be covered in a "religious studies" curriculum?

Should the cover not collecting stamps as well.

D-O-single_G 2008-07-05 11:32:44 PM
When will they outlaw this s*** in public schools. Religion has no place in a secular learning environment.

Religion is anti-knowledge. It propagates myth and legend as irrefutable fact. Where does that fit into the scientific method or Bernoulli's principle.

If you worship whatever it is that you revere on your own time, that's totally cool. But not on the time that my f****** tax dollars are paying for.

As a Christian I disagree. I welcome the opportunity for my kids to experience other cultures and traditions. Within reason of course, but so long as there are no safety issues why not?

John Dewey 2008-07-05 11:35:48 PM
I'm curious how many people who are mocking the Muslim faith have ever met anyone who has actually practiced it?

And if there are 1.6 billion or so Muslims in the world, why isn't there a lot more war?

You can't point a finger at an atheist without pointing three back at a Christian. Bigotry is a human problem, it can't be confined to one demographic.
