Your Glenn Frey wants another farewell tour.

I saw Mama Mia (the musical) when it first came out. I was full of self loathing for enjoying it. It was just fabulous!

albo [TotalFark] 2008-07-05 06:06:19 PM
why do it? they have more money than god and can do what they want. i understand ABBA still sells like 3 million albums a year.

albo [TotalFark] 2008-07-05 06:08:09 PM
reading that story, i now have immense respect for those guys.

jimhill 2008-07-05 06:11:01 PM
As much as I'd enjoy seeing them live (I'm not ashamed of that) I'm fine with the decision. While the line "Hope I die before I get old" is a bit trite, "Hope I have the common sense to get my creakin' ass off stage before I embarrass myself" is pretty solid.

/I'm talkin' to you, Jagger
//Get off the stage!

Wouldn't that be the ABBAcalypse?

There is much wisdom contained here.

did disco just re-die?

Inaditch 2008-07-05 07:18:37 PM
That's funny. I was just talking to my girlfriend about this not 10 minutes ago. I remember a story from a couple of years ago.

Someone offered ABBA 1 Billion dollars to regroup and tour. That's $1,000,000,000.00. $250 Million each.

And they said no.

Good for them.

Ditto to both. I like ABBA, dammit!

I love ABBA. I know they get a lot of flak for being sort of a sugary sweet pop act, but there's a lot of great singing and musicianship happening on ABBA records.

Ankillatron 2008-07-05 07:27:20 PM
I saw them around 1979 or 1980 in Omaha of all places. Very entertaining. Good pop is good pop no matter how old.

awfulperson [TotalFark] 2008-07-05 07:31:03 PM
Well, duh. Wasn't that long ago they were offered one BILLION dollars to regroup, do a tour, which they turned down.

You know that the Rolling Stones died in a tragic bus accident some years back. The "live" shows you've been seeing are all animatronic.

I've got $53 here in my wallet. Now will somebody please tell Peter Gabriel to quit dicking around, grab Steve Hackett, head to Switzerland, kidnap Phil Collins, drag him off with Tony and Mike and do a farking proper Genesis tour already?

They do, Polar Music is owned by Bjorn and Benny mainly. They control all their own music

Bjorn Uvula???

Lucky... That was their only US tour; I'm pretty jealous. I'm almost as jealous of you as I am of my mother-in-law, who saw Elvis, or my cousin who saw Queen.

Given you are almost certain a multimillionaire, and not at all stupid white trash living in a trailer, I'm sure that makes sense. Because tax breaks for the obscenely wealthy benefit YOU, Cletus!!

Masterblaster own publishing rights! Lift embargo!

Damn Swedish hooligans, they'll never reform, even if they went to reform school, they'll never reform.

barefoot in the head [TotalFark] 2008-07-06 01:24:28 AM
Why reform ABBA? Everything after the CHESS London concept recording is a step down - even Mama Mia, which was great.

Juniper Jupiter [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-07-06 01:44:54 AM
FTFA: "Ulvaeus described star of the Mamma Mia film Meryl Streep as 'a goddess'."

Has he gone tone deaf, or have I? Because every time they pimp out this movie and she starts singing her part (Gahd love her she is a great actress), she sounds like a cackling banshee. And Pierce Brosnan, who was great as James Bond (never to top Sean Connery), sounds like an Irish walrus. I'm probably one of the few closet ABBA freaks that wishes they got back together because they seem to be the only ones singing it RIGHT.

/If I were a few years older, or if she were a few years younger, I would've totally spanked the hell outta that Frida.

If you don't like ABBA, you don't like music. This I have decreed this day.

/very close to the threshold of not being facetious.

It's as though millions of salavating ghey men were suddenly silenced.

This...is an ABBA turd?

/obscure?

ChrisPC:Lucky... That was their only US tour; I'm pretty jealous. I'm almost as jealous of you as I am of my mother-in-law, who saw Elvis, or my cousin who saw Queen.

Well, not to send you over the edge, but I saw Queen twice. The first time was with Thin Lizzy opening.

/Yes, I'm old

Farkomatic 2008-07-06 08:49:35 PM
Of course, he never specified ABA would never tour again.

Limeade 2008-07-07 01:23:45 AM
I think I'll send them each a check for $17.99 just for being so cool.

schatzie 2008-07-07 08:56:42 AM
Of course didn't one of the women sleep with the other one's husband/significant other. Who was also a band member? I think that's what "Winner takes all" was all about.

The fact that the two females hate each other probably has a lot to do with this. They had to green screen their appearances in "The Last Dance" because they wouldn't appear together.
