You pretty much have to be brain dead to not eat meat considering how damn tasty it is.

the headline is news?

The methodology of the study leads the results to lack generalizability.

And dementia is not the same as being brain dead.

FAILarity at its best.

Mugato [TotalFark] 2008-07-05 03:37:54 PM
...because their lack of protein makes them too weak to make it across the street without getting hit? Or because they're prone to getting smacked upside the head for their sanctimonious bullshiat?

/ok, not all vegetarians

RodneyToady:FAILarity at its best.

Not to mention the article is discussing the long-known effects of high soy consumption, not avoidance of meat whatsoever.

You are correct, subby, I do in fact want steak.

I think I want me some 12 ounce Dallas Filet from Texas Roadhouse. Medium-rare. With mushrooms.

/love flesh and fungus for dinner

You pretty much have to be brain dead to not shoot up heroin considering how damn good it feels.

If God didn't want us to eat meat, He wouldn't have given us BBQ sauce.

I'm a vegetarian, and I maybe eat soy once a month at a most. I know a fair number of meat eaters who eat more soy than I do.

Wow, is it my birthday all over again?

Vegan or critters? Hmmmm...

At least we breed critters for a reason.

Damm vegans just keep appearing like kudzu...

MEAT

It's what's for dinner.

I've already sent this link to my vegitarian gf. It's for your own good, baby. Well, and mine.

/no tofu for you!
//there are other protein alternatives

A third theory is that damage is caused not by the tofu, but by formaldehyde, which is sometimes used in Indonesia as a preservative.

Wow. Don't they think they should have further looked into that?

CygnusDarius [TotalFark] 2008-07-05 03:58:02 PM
To each his own, just as long as you piss on each other's plate.

The latest study also found that eating tempe, a fermented soy product made from the whole soy bean, was associated with better memory.

/bet hey don't let the actual story get in the way of a good round of veggie bashin'

check the ingredients of maraschino cherries...formaldehyde ciiity.

"A third theory is that damage is caused not by the tofu, but by formaldehyde, which is sometimes used in Indonesia as a preservative."

They didn't control for jack, and one could draw all sorts of conclusions other than "tofu causes dementia"--there is nothing about being veggie causing dementia. The study sucks.

/so does tofu
//veggie

I'll eat animals before they eat me.

Great Janitor 2008-07-05 04:01:34 PM
Not really surprised, meat contains protein which is brain food. Not to mention that going vegetarian is wrong on the basis that your body is designed to eat meat, process meat, get nutrients from meat, nutrients that it needs that can only be found in meat. If we weren't meant to eat meat then we wouldn't have sharp teeth.

So? I've eaten bacon-wrapped tofu and it's actually pretty good.

No Such Agency 2008-07-05 04:05:29 PM
Fortunately, most of us don't eat tofu every damn day. I know you "Durr durr, fire and meat, fire and meat!" types can't comprehend this, but there are a lot of ways to prepare delicious, nourishing food, and many don't involve meat or soy.

odinsposse 2008-07-05 04:05:56 PM
This is why I laugh at those awful processed soy meat impersonations. They may not taste as good as meat, but they're also less healthy.

ISayWeOnlyToBePolite 2008-07-05 04:06:04 PM
Well I think they're on to something. I can remember quite a few good steaks, but the times (and there has been quite a few, honestly) I've eaten something soy based it hasn't really left a lasting impression.

Flashman73 2008-07-05 04:07:41 PM
Meh... I'm a vegetarian and I get plenty of protein without ever touching any soy or tofu products. They suck and they cause man titties.

And almond extract... that was a shock. Good thing my nut allergy is not a severe one. Some of the really cheapo ones don't have it though.

Also, vegetarians eat an unproportionally high amount of plants, thereby limiting how much Carbon Dioxide is cleaned from the air, THUS INCREASING THE GLOBAL WARMING!!!

HoneyDog:Heavy consumption of soy products has a negative effect on the thyroid as well. A Look at the Downsides of Soy (new window)

And it acts as an estrogen in your system.

To sum up, SOY:
Shrinks your brain
Acts as a estrogen agonist
Negatively effects thyroid function.

Meat:
Can lead to Atherosclerosis

/Don't know what I want to do....
//Of course, I can't dismiss the possibility that having a shrunken brain and a lot of estrogen LEADS to eating soy. ;)
