I love that guy. Or should I say loved?

Song was pretty epic. The dude singing the operatic falsetto was pretty freaky. Having heard the song many times it was disconcerting seeing a man sing that portion (if he did on the recording that's weird too) Makes me wonder who the "Harry Chapins" are for the new generation. In the 70's we had lots of smart troubadours: Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, Harry Nielson, Warren Zevon, Arlo Guthrie and Mssr. Chapin.

Probably just me, but don't Harry Chapin and Quentin Tarantino look like brothers?

That would be a rather interesting family to be apart of, well... if Harry was still alive.

Gah! I was just mocking this song last night. Some friends and I were having a little informal acoustic jam with guitars and mandolins, and someone threw out "30,000 Pounds of Bananas" by Harry Chapin. That song is much more fun...this one always struck me as a little too much like a Lifetime Network Movie of the Week.

Harry's real brother, Tom, plays at the Walnut Valley Festival every year...he's pretty good, but a bit more of a traditional folkie.

My dad loved Chapin's tunes, always regrets missing his show when he came to town.
As the story goes, he and a few of his brother had tickets for the show, but got completely wasted the night before. He had a massive hangover the next morning, skipped the show thinking he'd catch the next one. Chapin died shortly after.

OurManFlint1:if he did on the recording that's weird too

Without a doubt, he sang it on the original recording.

Easily my favorite Chapin song.

This is my least favorite Chapin songs. I did get his and Arlo Guthrie's signature on my selective service form way back in college....
