nothing more pathetic than a limpdick limberger wannabe.

This, journalism students, is what we call hackery. Don't confuse it with opinion journalism--that may have merit to it, despite the sometimes obvious lunacy of its author. When your tone is reduced to the lonely ramblings of a delusional sycophant, you should request a new assignment from your editor so as to preserve the few remaining strands of dignity to which you so desperately cling. When every article you pen is heaps of hyperbole connected by phantasmagoric speculation, the time has come to take a vacation someplace far, far away from your confused reality and reflect on the stupidity you've unleashed over the years.

Nonsense. Such a thing is beyond the capabilities of any mere mortal.

Jonah Goldberg again? He's a farking idiot.

Even the invasion of Iraq will probably seem to historians, in part, a continuation of trends begun in the Persian Gulf War and extended by Clinton's (and Britain's) attacks in 1998.

huh? Is he retarded? I've got no problem with retarded people, but they probably shouldn't be writing commentary on international affairs. The only thing this farce of a war has in common with the first gulf war and the 1998 attacks is that they involved Iraq.

Goldberg can be quite Shakespearian in a way. In the "full of sound and fury, signifying nothing" sense.

Mussolini was an American?

Hence the greatest irony. A successful Obama presidency would have the unintended consequence of making Bush's memoir a success story.

Well then, Jonah, I suggest you vote for Obama.

Not if Goldberg writes for the print edition. His full-on Fredo-osity infects anything he touches.

Point to anything in that article that has merit. Obama will be stuck dealing with Bush's mistakes. A part of that will be a long painful transition. It's like saying that FDR ratified Hoover by leaving the NRA in action until the WPA was fully functional.

Please. I read it. It's an undifferentiated pile of poo. A person couldn't isolate a coherent a point in it if their life depended on it. Alot of RA RA and little substance.

...and Saddam's refusal to give up his WMD program. This should sound familiar, no?

gilgigamesh:Mussolini was an American?

No, but you'd be surprised how many Americans loved Mussolini and wanted to emulate his policy here.

Something like that. Why academic journals are so territorial about 40 year old pieces, I'll never know. Oh well. Here's the citation for anyone out there on .edu systems.

Flirtation with Fascism: American Pragmatic Liberals and Mussolini's Italy

That's pretty much what I read. If Obama succeeds in fixing Bush's mistakes, the Republicans will take credit for it.

I thought Obama was a Marxist Muslim anti-christ (yes that is an actual right wing argument)

Now he's Bush's heir? WTF?

The cognitive dissonance on the right is astounding, even for Jonah Goldberg.

A clever ruse, but I'm still not voting for McCain. You won't trick me Tom Sawyer Jonah Goldberg.

"The greatest president in the history of the United States"???

The biggest Bush supporters I know are at a point where they just hope history remembers him as "not as bad people currently think he is". The thought that history will even possibly remember him as a top 5 President makes me know Goldberg is saying shiat just to get press.

Who will be the latest to break the code of silence after former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan? George W. Bush.

It's been a while since we've had a presidential coloring book...

Softens_hands_while_you_do_the_dishes 2008-07-03 01:55:37 PM
Tactically it's been a mess short term, but in the long term this President will be viewed as having delivered the goods. He's in the top 10 easily due to his convictions and follow through. Iraq's gonna be a big plum in 10 years, and multiples bigger than that in 20.

There's no doubt about. Iraq in our corner is a big win. We don't get into too many places over there with a smile and a tip.

BMulligan 2008-07-03 01:58:05 PM
If nothing else, the right wing is remarkably consistent. I mean, remember how all the conservative commentators agreed that what they perceived as the successes of Reagan's presidency justified all of President Carter's policy decisions and solidified his reputation as the greatest president in the history of the United States?

But for the average fark mouth breathers it's all about "not cheap enough, not enough, waaa", never stopping to consider the full range of possible outcomes, including them sending their kids out to the city dump for their daily scavenging.

We assume we aren't going down the farking tubes if we just sit b back and do nothing to secure oil. We assume. You need to open your farking eyes. It could be a lot farking worse.

I can even keep an open mind about Pat Buchanan. I read him every week. But the next worthwhile thing Jonah Goldberg says will be the first. Seriously.

Remember according to those on the right:

He is a secret Muslim and crazy Christian
He is a scary black guy and an educated elitist
He is the most liberal senator and a carbon copy of George W Bush

But I have one question:

Is he a floor wax AND a dessert topping?
