geez...whitesnake's guitarist was 60!!?!?!??

/how old am I, then ?

tequilasundae 2008-07-03 07:05:54 AM
well he was one of the members pre mtv, before Coverdale decided to fire the entire band (several times) to make them more photogenic...i will admit i never heard of this guy, so he must of been with them in the late 70's

He's done alot of other work. Only recorded one Whitesnake album, "Slide it In". Is credited on Saints and Sinners but as backup vocals only. Most people in the US don't know Whitesnake before the MTV days because their earlier records weren't released here until much later. Slide it In was the first Whitesnake US release even though it was their seventh album.

He was in the original lineup of the band. The lineups most people know came a bunch later.

Sad to see him go, was a good guitar player.

oh dear GOD Whitesnake was big when I was in high school...

twenty years ago.

Of course the guy's dead.

He also played with Trapeze and Phenomena, his brother Tom's project--great stuff. Trapeze was quite popular here in the midwest in the seventies. Glenn Hughes left Trapeze for Deep Purple and drummer Dave Holland left the same for Judas Priest

Mel was a damn good musician. -100 to subby for quoting a shiatty "pretty boy" Whitesnake song.

Folks should check out his playing on the Trapeze album Medusa. He was a very talented guitarist. My thoughts to his family and friends.

The guitarist that recorded (and wrote most of) the big Whitesnake album from '87 is John Sykes (new window).

Coverdale fired the whole band after recording but before videos and touring so they never got the time in the limelight with that band.

Coverdale is a douchetaco.

Wow. Only 27 more members to go.

Anyone who thinks that Whitesnake is just Coverdale and Kitaen tonsil dancing needs to take a look at some of their earlier material.

Please enjoy their cover of Bobby "Blue" Bland's "Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City" (new window)

But with a great voice. Always wondered how he and Jimmy Page managed to get both egos into the arena when they toured together.

/Heard all of the early stuff too- Mel will be missed.
