The media REALLY wants Dick Gephardt as VP.

Is this the same GOP that speculated we would be greeted as liberators in uh, the Iraq, and everywhere like such as?

Okay then.

Please no. He brings nothing.

And both candidates are going to pick dull VPs. Neither of them wants to be eclipsed by the story attached to their Veep choice.

If there's one source I believe about the Democrats, it's their political opponents. No ulterior motive whatsoever. That's the best part.

That was my first thought too. But TFA makes a good point.

I guess, but Gephardt? Seems to be an odd choice for a guy running on "change." Gephardt was in DC for twenty-eight years as a Congressman and is a lobbyist right now.

Still. "WE ARE SO TERRIFIED OF A CHARISMALESS WHITE MAN! Oh boy, PLEASE don't pick Gephardt, oh noes!!!!11" is kinda weird.

Well... I am not saying that he is going to be the guy (he seems like a hell of a longshot), but expect a "boring" selection similar to Gephardt for both Obama and McCain.

Well, I guess one good way to balance out a ticket with a black guy on it would be to pick an albino, so that may be the thinking here.

Unlike you, most liberals actually have understand that Obama isn't really a liberal. So why would one non-liberal's selection of another non-liberal be surprising to them?

Yeah, but most of the people (Dem, Rep, or otherwise) who think Obama's a flaming liberal think that only because their entire analysis of the issue consists of the following: "Democrat = liberal, Republican = conservative; Obama is a Democrat, therefore he is a liberal." So they probably think Gephardt is a liberal too, since he's also a Dem. Therefore little to no head assplosion to be expected.

Having said that, I seriously doubt Obama will pick Gephardt.

So, what will the Obamacrats say if he picks a lobbyist to be his VP? I thought lobbyists weren't allowed to influence the Obama campaign.

Didn't RTFA, but I know that several of Obama's strategists and campaign people were ex-Gephardt people. It's not raving lunacy to suggest a Gephardt veepidency.

I still think he's going to pick someone that plays well in the Mountain time zone.

I mentioned Gephardt as a possible pick a number of weeks ago in a different thread was laughed at on here. He actualy does kinda make sense in a way, an older white guy with strong union ties who hails from a swing state.

filth [TotalFark] 2008-07-02 06:52:08 PM
I haven't seen Obama make any major mistakes in this campaign, and since I think Gephardt is obviously a major mistake, I think I'll bet against him being VP.

I'd like to see him stay away from a Congressional rep on this.

HulkHands [TotalFark] 2008-07-02 06:55:54 PM
That means they really aren't and want Obama to choose him. Or they really are afraid of him and don't want Obama to choose him

Uhh... they're claiming Colin Powell is their top choice for Obama's running mate? Isn't he a senior member in the wrong party for that sort of thing?

McCain/Kennedy '08?

Canadian Canuck [TotalFark] 2008-07-02 07:18:37 PM
What would the GOP know about Obama's choice? Seriously it's like me making a wild guess. Unless you are Obama or his closest advisers you have no idea what he will do.

McCainDemocrat 2008-07-02 08:27:06 PM
crackspider:they're claiming Colin Powell is their top choice for Obama's running mate?

It would be history. The first time that the VP candidate for one party had donated money to the Presidential candidate on another ticket (remember, Obama was more likely to be the nominee than McCain when Powell made that donation in 2007)

Skleenar 2008-07-02 08:27:21 PM
Gephardt?

That's farking BRILLIANT!

OMG! Obama just HAS to pick Gephardt! How come I never thought of this before! He's the GOP-killer!

He's the last, best chance of the Democrats ever regaining the White House.

I was no huge Obama fan, but I could seriously drink some Gephardt Kool-Aid.

awesome. AWESOME. AWESOME!

Shhh, when it comes to being dead wrong about the biggest upset in primary politics, the trolls' new defense is pretending it was easy to defeat Hillary Clinton.

Anyways.. Gephardt also kept insisting that the Iraq war was a good idea until 2005ish, right?

Gephardt was also 0 for 4 in getting the House back (from 1996 to 2002), right?

Sounds like one heck of a leader!

Someone actually claims that? I won't vote for Obama because I'm too busy praying to God to protect my precious guns, but even I can see that he's running a great campaign.

But do you really think this is a bigger upset than Carter over Kennedy?

McCainDemocrat 2008-07-02 08:50:58 PM
McCain was polling 4%ish for a good portion of 2007, and he made a huge comeback in 2007.

Obama was around like 30%ish.

Obama was far more likely to be a nominee back in July 2007 than McCain.
