I'd consider screeching but I don't know who or what a Kerrang is, so I will sit tight for a while.

at least now we can hear what an ironing maiden song sounds like when it is performed by a good band. More of this

Kerrang!, published in the UK, is the world's premier heavy metal magazine.

Are you the Amon Amarth fan that gets pissed off when Iron Maiden gets a topic, or is that the other guy?

I am forced to assume that is me. Though Amon Amarth is my second request after buckethead.

Metal-Archives elitists views:

Metallica (new window)

Iron Maiden (new window)

/A score above 70% usually denotes a good album (remember, they are hardcore elitists)
//Amon Amarth is high rated there as well
///As they should be

Weak.

More to the point, it'll be nice to hear Metallica performing some decently written material, it's been a long, long time.

And I just saw the track they're doing. Great track. But it'll mean James trying to freaking sing again, and he's not got the range for it, hell, Bruce barely has. Don't want, haven't since Nothing Else, not going to change my mind on the matter. For f***'s sake boys, DO SOMETHING HEAVY! Remember how to do that?

Woulda plumped for The Trooper myself, the song's far more suited to James' growl while contrasting Bruce's more operatic performance.

No. The Iron Maidens

Arthur the Sandwich Maker 2008-07-02 11:17:00 AM
Derwood:Metallica > Iron Maiden

Consistantly good for 30 years > Good for seven years then a bit rubbish and declining into complete crap.

At least in my universe anyway. And another, non-musical point, Some Kind of Monster would have been a lot more fun and less soul-chafingly depressing if Maiden had been the subject. Like Maiden or not, they're good lads and they don't f***ing whine, nor do they need a shrink to do their f***ing JOB, a job that makes them millions and millions of dollars. Bruce > James and that's just a plain and simple fact.

The thought of Metallica being a better band than Iron Maiden makes me very St. Angry.

strangeguitar 2008-07-02 11:59:07 AM
I haven't liked Metallica since ...And Justice For All, but they did a great medley of Mercyful Fate tunes on Garage Inc. The vocals (of course) weren't the same, but the riffs were solid.

Worst Maiden 'tribute' by a real band: Cradle of Filth - Hallowed be thy name.

I saw Maiden June 20th in Manchester Mass. It was one of the best stage performances I've seen since Roger Waters in '96. I thought it was a little funny when Bruce came out in the British RedCoat for 'The Trooper' considering the amount of redcoat ass that the Massachusetts Minute Men kicked in the revolution.

They better not fark this up. Thats my favourite Maiden song.

Oddly enough, our Recoats saw a lot more action than just your little skirmish. Congrats though, but bear in mind you owe the French a bit fat merci for your freedom, if we hadn't been split fighting them as well we'd have run you to and from the hills till you forgot which month it was and today you'd be Canada. Joyeux Juillet quatre! Enjoy the absence of poutine! I know I do. ;)

/Good natured ribbing of course.

We hate them because they speak so derisively of Americans, but if it want for us, they'd be marching in jackboots and Sieg Heil'ing every German they see.

I was hoping for Prowler myself... I have an old metallica bootleg where they do a pretty damn good version of it.

I consider myself a metallica fan and all, but I'll be very surprised if their version of Remember Tomorrow is better than the one done by Anthrax:

I find it telling that my quickest 'random' submissions greenlights were relating to Iron Maiden/Metallica and Kevin Costner/Field of Dreams.

Now only if I had my finger on a direct feed to all things Iron Maiden/Metallica, and Kevin Costner, I'd be set.

PS: If you're looking for a good Iron Maiden Tribute, check out "NUmbers from the Beast".
The Wickerman as done by John Bush, Scott Ian, and Jeff Duncan.
Not to mention Fear of the Dark as sung by Chuck Billy is just incredible.

you know, when i was a kid all the "cool metal kids" would clown me for being into Maiden. All I would like to say is: where are G'N'R now? huh huh? Who's making a cover of who now? metallica is making Maiden covers now!!Thats Who.

/Looking for my red stapler.

I respect Maiden immensely, but hell if I can listen to an album without thinking, "This is so farking cheesy." Their production values, especially on stuff not made in this millennium, are laughable because they're so wiry-thin that it's hard to take them seriously. "The Trooper" and "Hallowed Be Thy Name" and "Wrathchild" are prodigious sets of notes, but their writers don't do them justice on the recorded performances, which is weird and, for me, enough to skip over their legacy of a catalog in favor of some Master of Puppets or Paranoid or Ace of Spades. The song-writing is definitely there, I just HATE it when it's Iron Maiden playing it! (Case in point: Cradle of Filth's "Hallowed")

yox 2008-07-03 06:04:19 AM
The best performance I've ever heard of Remember Tomorrow has to be Opeth's (new window). Metallica covering one of Maiden's better tunes is probably a good thing for them - might help them with their heavy muse. Healthier for them than covering Nick Cave, for instance (great song, terrible cover).

Point taken, but live, Iron maiden is absolutely beyond compare. No one...and I MEAN NO ONE is better.
