They would have to work in some sort of way to simulate being incredibly drunk while still being a guitar god, to get the true EVH effect.

I'm holding out for the "Backstage Blowjobs From Coked-Out Groupies, Then Home to Repeatedly Nail Valerie Expansion Pack." (Not available for Wii).

Not ten minutes ago I saw a commercial for this with Nirvana's 'Breed' as the soundtrack. Some type of small hand-held 'Rock Band To Go' thingamajig. Looked pretty lame, particularly due to the fact that the two kids in the commercial looked about as 'punk' as Debbie Boone and David Cassidy.

/Kurt's ashes do not approve.

The bands make money touring. It's the record studio leeches that are running low on blood to suck.

FTA:
"But some bands have resisted the call of the new medium. Led Zeppelin's thundering riffs are among the most sought after by music game makers, but the group's guitarist, Jimmy Page, and his bandmates have repeatedly turned down offers from both Activision and MTV, says Peter Mensch, a partner at Q Prime Management, which manages Mr. Page, along with Metallica and other acts.

The sticking point: The band isn't comfortable with the prospect of granting outsiders access to its master tapes, a necessary step in creating the games. "It ain't about the money," Mr. Mensch says."

1. I call shenanigans.
2. If this is true, then this makes me sad. Why freak out about allowing someone access to the masters if it enhances their appreciation for the songs? My friend was telling me today there is no price too high he would pay to play "Good Times Bad Times" on Rock Band. I'd prefer "Nobody's Fault But Mine" or "Fool in the Rain", but the point stands.

The only bands that can headline video games are bands that have already sold millions of records.

BTW, Jimmy Page has always been careful about letting the Zep out.

They have only released a few Zep compilations, have always refused to be included on other compilations and they're real careful about letting Zep be used on movie soundtracks.

Hip-hop already hit the ropes, maybe not commercially, but artistically. It was the last genre to feel the wrath of the industry. Hip-hop is currently in its version of the disco era. Just a bunch of one-hit wonders making club hits and are basically driven by the producer instead of the writer/rapper. It really is strange how similar it is. Gone are the real, raw, and intellectual rappers. It's all gimmicks and dances now. At least in the mainstream that is. Underground is probably stronger than ever though.

It's another way to listen to music. I guess just sitting and listening works too, but why not participate while earning points too and find some music you may have never heard otherwise?

People that hate on these games (not that FreeLoveFreeway was necessarily doing that) just boggle me. It is still listening to music.

It's a fark cliche: whenever there's a thread related to Rock Band or Guitar Hero, somebody will come along and say "Learn to play a real guitar, losers". Most of the time the person making the comment doesn't really mean it, they're just trolling because they know that fans of the game will take the bait.

The problem is that they are still relying on the "Record Industry". Records are an outdated format. They're all poppy and clicky/scratchy.

Next time music gods -try cd's or simply mp3's.

I'm saying it from a musician's stand point :-) I like playing along on guitar or bass or keys to my favorite songs. I'm just teasing gamers for going half-way.

Also, those games need to understand what "hammer-ons" are. Having to literally strum each note is what hacky amateur guitarists do.

No I really mean it. It's going half way. Real "Expert" mode should be actually playing real guitar. It's Dance-Dance Revolution on a stick!

Guitar Hero III allows for "hammer-ons."

FreeLoveFreeway:

Hammer-ons have been a part of Guitar Hero since the second game.

I, too, play guitar in real life, and I've never understood why so many musicians get uptight and snide whenever the subject of Rock Band and Guitar Hero come up. I never see real football players say "Why don't you stop playing Madden '08 and join a real football team?" or real criminals say "Why don't you stop playing Grand Theft Auto and go on a real crime spree?"

It's probably because there are a lot of musicians who are snobs. Learning to play an instrument well is hard work, and naturally many people develop a certain degree of smugness if they're able to pull it off. So when a game like Guitar Hero comes along and gives people a fun, easy way to feel like a rock star without spending thousands of dollars on instruments and years of your life in practice, these real musicians can't help but feel the need to say stuff like "You know that playing that game doesn't make you cool. I play real instruments - I'm the cool one!"

That's good to know, I'll be less frustrated the next time I find myself playing one of those games, but mostly it's good for the gamers out there who may want to pick a real guitar up. And also:

My point is that knowing guitar makes the purpose of Guitar Homo obsolete. (I'll give Rock Band credit for being multi-instrumental multi-player game)

Your comparisons may need some tweaking and I'll even respond to your personal jab. The comparison is more like having real sex compared to masturbation.... or (simulation) compared to (real thing). Playing Guitar Homo once in a while at parties, or larger gatherings where there is no alcohol or drugs or girls is fine. When someone turns into the kid who does Expert level flawlessly, then I have grounds to look down my nose, make Fark comments, and possibly even shove them into a locker.

Message to:

"Rockgroups" - try making some new music - instead of going of many years between album and then spouting off about "piracy" (you know who you are...)

MTV - try playing videos again - it's how you became the bigshot you are today. Does anyone realize that MTV has spent less time as a video-only channel now, than a gratuitous garbage dispenser?

Video game manufacturers - let's get more creative with the games, rather than just coming up with new batches of songs every few months - we could be hucking beer cans or panties at these guys while they're playing to make it more realistic. And, why isn't there a mode that allows for picking groupies out of the audience, maybe with the amount of clothing, size of breasts, and willingness depending on playing ability? You're not even scratching the surface here!!

No, it doesn't. The biggest two Guitar Hero fans I know were playing real guitar years before the game came out. It's just like how I'm able to enjoy a game like Mario Kart despite the fact that I *gasp* drive a real car every day.

Your comparisons may need some tweaking and I'll even respond to your personal jab. The comparison is more like having real sex compared to masturbation.... or (simulation) compared to (real thing).

That's a bad comparison. A more accurate comparison would be "Guitar Hero is like masturbating with a fleshlight, while real guitar is like masturbating with an incredibly complex sex toy that requires months or even years of practice to use proficently."

Playing Guitar Homo once in a while at parties, or larger gatherings where there is no alcohol or drugs or girls is fine. When someone turns into the kid who does Expert level flawlessly, then I have grounds to look down my nose, make Fark comments, and possibly even shove them into a locker.

And there's the smug sense of superiority I mentioned in my last post.

Guitar Hero 2 and 3 both supported hammer ons & offs, 2 started it and 3 made it easier... anyone that strums every note is a tard, I can think of a few songs that have whole sections where you don't have to strum at all...

This is so true, all the albums now are... who can rap better about all the money they lie about having. There's only a few good ones left, Nas, Common, the still alive Tupac, 1/4 of Kanye's stuff.....

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith?

What next, Gran Turismo: Mike Hailwood edition?

WWE RAW!: Giant Haystacks?

Also, Led Zep didn't approve the use of Stairway To Heaven in that brilliant scene in Almost Famous that was removed from the film as a result; but an ad for a shiatty car got approval, presumably because it was more lucrative. Stupid twats.
